GROUP WORK
Case: You have an ATOX 40 raw mill. Over the last couple of months you have
observed that
- the output has decreased and the specific energy consumption for the
mill has increased.
The reason might be that the air flow through the nozzle ring (and the mil) has
become too low.
Based on fan power consumption and fan diagram you have estimated the air
flow through the mill fan at 410,000 kg/h, which is approximately the designed air
flow. Previously, this airflow used to be satisfactory. However, the false air might
have increased, and the air flow through the nozzle ring has consequently
decreased. One way to get an indication of the amount of false air is to establish
a heat balance, with an air flow at the mill fan equal to the air flow determined on
the basis of fan power.

To be calculated:
Heat input:
Heat consumption:
Evaporation of water
- injected: 4000 kg/h
- from feed: 8270 kg/h
- total: 12270 kg/h
Heat for heating and evaporation of water:
12270 kg/h × ((70 + 539) - (100 - 80)×0.48) = 7.35 × 106 [kCal/h]
Heating of material:
235000 kg/h × 0.96 × (80 - 30°C) × 0.21 kCal/kg°C =
2.37 × 106 [Kcal/h]
