FarSync adapter driver and firmware installation
What are LMT drivers and why LMT needs them?
Every LMT Evolution load ships a third-party software that is used to handle the hardware interface towards the network element
(HALCA/DLHC) for connection via V.11. For the same purpose, LMT is also prearranged to support FarSync drivers: you can choose
which drivers to use during the setup of LMT.
If you select HALCA/DLHC driver in the LMT installation procedure, if not present, HALCA or DLHC driver will be installed by LMT
installation.
If you select FarSync driver in the LMT installation procedure, this does not cause the driver to be installed by LMT installation; such
selection only sets the drivers to be used for V.11. It is supposed that FarSync driver has been already installed before or will be
installed later via a separate installation in charge to the operator
NOTE: Before selecting FarSync driver please verify that it is officially delivered in the release notes.
FarSync adapter driver and firmware installation
The choice is mutually exclusive and once the driver is selected and the installation terminates, LMT is forced to use that driver for
connecting via V.11 to the NE. If the operator wants to switch to the other driver, he must uninstall LMT and reinstall it with the
proper driver selected.
NOTE: selecting the FarSync driver in the installation procedure, does not cause the driver to be installed; such selection only sets the
drivers to be used for V.11. In case of FarSync it is supposed that the operator has already installed the drivers on the PC/Notebook
via a separate installation.
The LMT evolution title bar shows the kind of V11 driver installation has been chosen, as pictures below:
Remember that only with a complete LMT evolution re-installation you can change the choice of V11 driver.

FarSync driver
FarSync driver installation has to be performed separately. However the selection of the drivers is embedded in the LMT main
installation.
After the installation of LMT is completed, the user is able (provided that FarSync driver has been installed) to perform a
connection of LMT to the Network Element via the hardware interfaces supported by FarSync.
HALCA/DLHC and FarSync drivers can coexist on the same PC.
It is important to point out that the FarSync driver does not support power-saving.The PC must therefore NOT be configured to
go into standby mode.
FarSync adapter
FarSync drivers allow LMT to connect to the NE through the "FarSync Flex USB Adapter":
It is recommended to use a Notebook/Desktop equipped with a USB version 2.0 port. Once drivers are installed, the operator can
start using the adapter by physically connecting its USB plug to the USB socket on LMT side, and the V.11 termination on the NE
side.
Note that, if the adapter has never been used on a given PC/Notebook, the operator has to wait for the Operating System to
detect and install the new hardware (the user is required to follow carefully the instruction about " farsync driver installation" (
see Farsync adapter driver & FW installation )).
NOTE: If the operator is connected to a BTS and the cable is unplugged and then plugged in again, it may happen that the link is
not automatically restored. To restore the link, the operator may avoid restarting LMT by simply switching to IP and then back to
V.11.

Connecting the cables
The FarSync has a standard USB type B connector
at one end of the device. Attach the type-B end of
the supplied USB cable to the device Plug in the
V11/X.21 (15 pin) cable to the other end
Connect the A-type end of the USB cable to the
computer
Driver installation
NOTE: Administrative privilege is required to
install the software under Windows. In case of
driver installation on Windows Vista operating
1 2 system, it is also required to disable UAC (User

FarSync Configuration
FarSync Configuration
Starting from LMT SW 301-1-18-00 using the new Farsync Kernel Mode HDLC API it is necessary to set the port’s mode as LAPB instead of HDLC.
If you need to revert back to the previous LMT version using previous FarSync HDLC API you’ll need to set the port mode back to HDLC value.
Follow the steps below to configure new Farsync:
1) Click on the My Computer icon on desktop using the secondary (normally the right) mouse button.
On appeared pop-up menu select and click Properties:
