CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter deals with the procedures and methods that are used in the study. This

briefly discusses the research design, sources of data, and the data gathering

procedure.

A. Research Locale

The researchers chose Our Lady of Fatima University Antipolo City Campus, as their

main site for conducting their study. The researchers will gather data from 50

respondents from the Grade 12 STEM students of this school.

B. Research Method

C. Research Design

This research project used a true experimental research and the simplest example of

an experimental research is conducting a laboratory test. As long as research is being

conducted under scientifically acceptable conditions, it qualifies as an experimental

research. A true experimental research is considered to be successful only when the

researcher confirms that a change in the dependent variable is solely sue to the

manipulation of the independent variable.

D. Materials

The researchers used 100 grams of dried guyabano leaves. The researchers used

70% Ethanol as solvent for the extraction method.

Utensils

The researchers used mortar and pestle to grind the dried leaves.

The researchers used beam balance scale to weigh the grinded leaves.

F. Procedure

Fresh leaves of Annona muricata were harvested from Olangapo City in Zambales,

Philippines. The leaves were washed in a running tap and dried to constant weight at

room temperature. The dried plant sample was crushed and sieved to an average

particle size. Thereafter, the sample was stored in a dark airtight resealable plastic bag

at 4 °C refrigerator before the extraction processes.

Ethanol were purchased from DKL Laboratory Supplies. All chemicals and reagents

used in this study were of analytical grade. Extraction method through solvent was

used to collect the extracts from the leaf. Different set-ups were creeated based on the

independent and dependent variables of the studies. Maceration process was then

done to test the phytocompounds of the leaf extract sample.

G. Statistical Treatment

The study employed experimental design with mean and one-way ANOVA as

statistical tools.
