I. INTRODUCTION
The activity discussed is about calibrating the pressure gauge, how to do it and
what to use on doing the calibration. This activity will help students in order to know the
basic and fundamental procedures in calibrating a pressure gauge.
II. OBJECTIVES
In watching the video for this activity, the student must able to attain the expected
learning outcome of the lesson .The objectives in this activity are the following:
IV. PROCEDURES
Steps in Calibrating the Pressure Gauge:
Step 1: Don’t forget to note down the Test Points – 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and
100%. This will help you to compare results of the calibration.
Step 2: Set the Master Gauge and UUC on the Gauge Comparator.
Step 3: Perform Preloading. Apply pressure at full scale to the Test Gauge (UUC)
slowly, then wait few moments then release the pressure to zero.
Step 4: Have a keen observation to the UUC and Master Gauge on all the test
points, in both increasing and decreasing cycles.
Step 5: Wait for at least 30 seconds for each test points to ensure a stabilized
pressure.
Step 6: Finally, calculate the measurements of the uncertainties and final results
based on the observation conducted.
After the comparison between the master gauge and the UUC, it is visible that the
UUC is not calibrated. The UUC is slightly above from the Master Gauge. At point 25%,
the Master Gauge only reads the pressure as 4.79, where it is shown to the UUC that the
arrow is pointing at 5. At 50%, the Master gauge reads the pressure as 9.80, where the
UUC points exactly at 10. At 75%, the Master gauge reads about 14.37 pressure, where
the UUC points at 15. At 100%, the Master gauge shows 19.48, where the UUC points at
20. The maximum measurement of pressure made by the Master Gauge is 20.71, which
is near to the max pressure reading the UUC can give, which is 21.
This readings gives us the impression that the UUC reading of the following
pressures are rounded off. It provides an exact whole number of the pressure applied.
The slight difference in the reading of the Master Gauge and UUC can also be considered
as it is just few decimal differences.
VI. CONCLUSION
In line with the results, we can say that using the Master Gauge, which reads the
pressures digitally, it is more accurate than the UUC we have. There are slightly difference
between then but most commonly accepted if the values were rounded off. Therefore, I
can say that if master gauge or any digital instrument is available it is better to use it for
us to make and have exact output as required, the UUC on the other hand is also useful
and gives us exact amounts of pressure rounded off to the nearest tenths or whole
number.
VII. RECOMMNEDATION
This type of activity is best learned on hand. Physical interaction with the materials,
actual observation and Laboratory environment can help the students to learn this
knowledge easily and effectively. In the video it was presented without human
supervision, I mean there is no guide for the viewers to know what to do, there is text that
is readable but it may lack of explanation which is an essential part of learning of the
students. Although, it is common that we are in a situation where mass gathering are not
allowed yet, this recommendations are also achievable in the present or maybe in the
near future, for the next students that will tackle the lesson. All in all, I do think that even
in this set up, I am able to learn how to calibrate a pressure gauge along with the materials
and procedures that needs to be done.
