Electrical symbols are pictograms that represent the different electrical

devices in an electrical wiring diagram. It is also used in drawing and


interpreting electrical plans.

Thus, you need to be familiar with some of the common electrical symbols
to interpret an electrical diagram.

It is also important to know the different electrical signs that you may
encounter while working or entering an electrical hazard zone.

Electrical signs are used to alert and/or instruct people on how to avoid to
the potential that may cause injuries and damages.

Below are some of the safety symbols and its meaning using the common
symbols above.
SAFETY ALERT indicates that a
person should observe extra awareness

CAUTION indicates some


precautionary measures against
potential hazardous situation which, if
not avoided, may result to a minor or
moderate injury.
DANGER indicates a hazardous
situation which, if not avoided, will
result in death or serious
injury.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS signs
indicate specific safety-related
instruction or procedures.
ELECTRICAL HAZARD indicates that
electrical hazard is present in the area

voltage in the area and surrounding
equipment

INSTRUCTION MANUAL means that a
person should make some reading
before doing any activity.
WEAR EYE PROTECTION indicates
that a person should wear safety
goggles or any related protection for
the eyes.
Wear appropriate eye protection,
hearing protection, and respiratory
protection.
