Migration vs Nationalism
Ask yourselves, what is more important? your own improvement or the improvement of
the whole country?

Improvement for ourselves such as earning a good amount of money, buying all we
want, making our love ones happy through giving them gifts and rewards. It’s not being selfish
anyway, it is being self-centered actually according to Miriam Webster Dictionary. Centering all
your activities just for your own goodness, desires and interests. This mentality is not just the
mentality of a one person, but many of us have this, improve ourselves first so that we can help
others improve their life too! Indeed, it is a good intention. But what is bad with that? is you! your
intention of improving and helping your life only, without thinking that many people here in the
country needed your service and abilities more than you think. Migrating to other country
because earnings will be 5 times or 10 times larger than the salary here is a very invalid reason.

I don’t want to offend those people with this reason of migrating but it is a big slap to our
country that people who were born and raised here don’t want to die in the same place where
they are born. Low salaries and poor economy of origin were one of the reason why people
migrated (IOM, 2018). Escaping with the problem is not the solution, but facing and fighting for it
would be an effective one. How can we solve the low salary and poverty issues if we are serving
other countries, we are showing our abilities to other countries? Where is the term nationalism
now? Nationalism should not be just written in the dictionary, it should also be in our hearts,
where we mind and love our own people, our own blood, and our own flag. How? the simplest
thing to do is to lead ourselves in enriching and improving the country through supporting
people with good advocacies. We should never let go the place where we become the person
we are now. Anyways, migrating to other countries is not difficult since you only have to get
passport ID and then buy ticket then live there for how many years to get a citizenship of that
country. But what’s difficult is that there will be daily limitations, daily adjustments and daily
patience. I haven’t gone to other country but this idea is from the people I knew. Culture shock
would really exist and that you as immigrant should be the one to adapt and that adaptation for
them is not easy. And according to them, as you grow old living in the different country, you will
also grow differently and as a different person from what you are and your origin, there will be
different perspectives in life, in short there will be a big change inside and out because of
adaptation, and this adaptation losses nationalism.

Yes! migration for some is needed or necessary, but for those who just want to be rich,
look rich, or those who really have a bad intention, please ask yourself what is more important!
migration or nationalism? If you think migrating to other country is the only solution for improving
life, don’t just think twice, many of us recommended to think a hundred times!
