English 1010 Committee Member, Wayne State English Composition Program


This committee’s major project entails working to propose a Stretch model, where students who’ve tested
into basic writing can take Composition I over the length of an academic year, as opposed to two classes.

Composition Program Review, Professional Development Session, Jackson College:


In effort to normalize syllabi to an extent, I hosted a professional development session for composition
instructors, to review current college requirements for the composition courses and to strategize new and
better methods of instruction.

Teaching Experience for English Masters Students (T.E.E.M.S.) Program, Director & Founder:
To offer more and varied instructional opportunities for graduate students at Western Washington
University, and to spark community engagement, I created a program that would allow graduate students
to design and lead creative writing workshops which were free and open to students, faculty, staff, and the
university’s surrounding community.

Honors & Awards
2019 Wayne State University Assessment Grant
In cooperation with other instructors in the composition learning community, I applied for a grant to
develop and pilot systematic, mixed-methods assessments to evaluate the impact of learning community
participation on academic success and student retention in Composition.

The 2015–16 English Department Honorable Mention Award for Teaching Excellence
Awarded yearly to a second-year graduate instructor of English in recognition for valuable contributions
to the Western Washington University English Dept.

Passed with Distinction, Creative Writing MFA Qualifying Exam


All Creative Writing MFA candidates must pass this written exam to be considered for the degree.

MSU Creative Arts Scholarship


Awarded based on the creative merit of a portfolio to an incoming freshman to the College of Arts and
Sciences at Michigan State University.

Jim Cash Creative Writing Award


Granted to a creative writing student at Michigan State University who has submitted a portfolio of
