What will you do?

Read and understand the journal on “Cultural Diversity: Implications for Workplace
Management”
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/228892323_Cultural_Diversity_Implications_For_Work
place_Management

After reading can you give the 1) advantage and 2) disadvantage of diversity and do share a
little bit more about the 3) implication of cultural diversity in workplace management.

Advantage

Having a culturally diverse workforce can result in a competitive advantage for organizations.
Having a better understanding of national employees, local clients and customers, as well as
the local social, political and economic environment as being the specific external advantages
for these organizations and having a better understanding of other cultures is only an advantage
if it results in better interpersonal communication. Several internal advantages of having a
diverse workforce in organizations. The primary advantages expand the bounds of
organizational rationality through the increase of new ideas, new perspectives, and new
interpretations, solving skills, flexibility, and creativity within the organization.

Disadvantage

Having a culturally diverse workforce can also result in several disadvantages for organizations.
Overgeneralization and ethnocentrism are the cause of many culturally specific disadvantages.
Increasing intercultural skills and intercultural competency can decrease the incidence of
overgeneralization and ethnocentrism. Intercultural skill is defined as the ability to understand
and appreciate those from other cultures. Multicultural organizations should focus on the issues
of cultural sensitivity, cultural awareness, and behavioral skills as the first step toward
increasing general intercultural competency. Ignoring those elements of culture will erect an
unnecessary and immovable barrier to good communication.

What will you do?

http://asia.blog.terrapinn.com/aviation/2019/01/18/airport-industry-review-can-cultural-differences-impact-passenger-
satisfaction/

After reading discuss about

1)what you have found out about cultural differences?

I found out that culture can have a substantial impact on a passenger’s travelling experience
and can affect their judgement of it. There have six dimensions are Power Distance, which
focuses on how a society handles inequalities; Individualism and Collectivism, defining the
extent to which a passenger values the happiness and wellbeing of the community surrounding
them; Masculinity, which, as opposed to Femininity, represents a preference in society for
achievement, heroism and material rewards for success and Uncertainty Avoidance, expressing
the way members of society feel in moments on uncertainty. The other dimensions considered
are Long-term Orientation, which assesses the degree “to which a society allows relatively free
gratification,” and finally Indulgence, which studies how societies balance their respect for the
past and the challenges they face in the present and future. We should know how to respect,
talk and act knowing that they do not offend to you.

2) does it really have an impact on passenger satisfaction? Why did you say so? Can you
explain further…

The answer is yes: based on this research, we can say that between 35 to 45% of the overall
customer satisfaction is impacted by a person's cultural background.” According to Coll, an
airport's best chance to succeed in customer management is to combine all dimensions to
better evaluate its passenger mix”.

them by their customers and do black visitors feel safe and welcome in our destination,
do we represent diversity in our marketing and more black people should be recruited,
