Definition of Terms
For further understanding of the contents of the study, the following terms here by
defined.
Aedes. A mosquito belonging to a genus that carries diseases such as yellow fever,
dengue, etc. (Merriam-Webster, 2021).
Chikungunya. It is spread by mosquito bites. There is generally severe joint pain and
fatigue associated with this fever, which can last for up to seven days. (World Health
Organization, 2019).
Dengue Hemorrhagic fever. In tropical and subtropical areas of the world, dengue
fever is spread by mosquitoes. A mild case of dengue fever causes a high fever and flu-
like symptoms. It is a severe form of the disease that can cause bleeding, a drop in
blood pressure (shock), and death (Mayoclinic, 2019).
Diptera. It is the order that comprises all genuine flies. These insects are distinguished
by the reduction of their hind wings to little, club-shaped appendages known as
halteres; only the membrane front wings function as aerodynamic surface (Meyer,
2020).
Extract. This liquid or oil is produced from the raw Oregano leaves and Lemongrass.
Formulation. As utilized in this research study, it is the process of creating the mixture
or organic repellent spray using Oregano leaves and Lemongrass.
Lemon grass. Also known as Cymbopogon citratus, is an annual grass in the family
Poaceae grown mainly for its fragrant leaves. The grass grows in dense clumps with
stiff stems and blade-like leaves that droop at the tips. The blue-green leaves turn red in
the fall and emit a strong lemon scent when damaged (PlantVillage.com).
Mosquito. Dipteran flies (Culicidae) that have slender proboscis and can penetrate
and suck blood from animals. They can carry serious diseases (Merriam-
Webster.com).
Organic. Grown or produced without the use of synthetic chemicals (Merriam-Webster,
2021).
Repellent. These chemicals cause insects to move away from their source. These
substances usually have a strong odor and act in the opposite way, keeping pests at
bay (Agriculturist Musa, 2018).
