Date: September 8, 2018- November 17,2018

Summary of Discussion

BIM – Building Information Modeling

-It is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives architecture,

engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to
more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and
infrastructure.

5 Keys before Staring BIM

 Project Data Information

 Basic Building Material

Basic Revit Knowledge

Project

In Revit Architecture, the project is the single database of information

for your design.

The project file contains all information for your building design, from
geometry to construction data.

Family

In Revit Architecture, these are classes of elements in a category.

3 kinds of Families

1. Loadable Family:

-can be loaded into a project and created on family templates.

2. System Family:

-includes walls, dimensions, ceilings, roofs, and levels. They are not
available for loading or creating as separate files.

3. In-Place Family:

-define costume elements that you create in the context of the

project. Create an in-place element when your project need unique
geometry.
To get started in Revit you can open a Project or Family or create one from a

Template file.

You can also open a recently use file by clicking the projects in the recent files
window.

Revit Extension Files:

1. Project - .rvt

2. Family - .rfa

3. Template - .rte
RIBBON:

-The Ribbon display when you create or open a file. It provides all the tools
necessary to create a project or family.
Expanded Panel
An arrow next to a panel title
indicates that you can expand the
panel to display related tools and
controls

Expanded Panels

PROJECT BROWSER:

The Project Browser shows a logical hierarchy for all

views, schedules, sheets, family, groups, linked Revit
models, and other parts of the current project. As
you expand and collapse each branch, lower-levels
items display.
PROPERTIES PALETTE:
Type Selector

Properties Filter
Display Type Properties

The properties Palette is a

modeless dialog where you can
view and modify the
parameters that define the
properties of element in Revit.
Instance Properties

TYPE SELECTOR: When a tool for placing element is

active, or elements on the same type are selected
in the drawing area the Type Selector displays at
the top of the properties palette. It identifies the
currently selected family type and provides a
drop-down from which you can select a different
type.

Selected object
to appear on the
type selector
and all the
families you have
loaded to the
project.
DRAWING AREA

The Drawing Area of the Revit window displays views (sheets and schedules)
of the current project.

Each time you open a view in a project, by default the view displays in the
drawing area on top open views. The other views are still open, but they are
underneath the current view.

The default color of the drawing area background is white you can invert the
color to black.

WORKSHARING
WORKSET:

- Is a collection of walls, doors or chairs and other trades. Only one

user can edit each workset at a given time. This prevents potential
conflicts within the project.
