A Book Fair I Visited
A book fair is an exhibition where different types of book ate displayed and sold. Nowadays it has become
very popular. A book fair is held to display the books of various kinds and taste with a view to creating
interest among the people to buy and read more and more books. I visited the Ekushe Bio Mela this year.
When I entered the main gate of the fair, I found a different environment. The main gate was beautifully
decorated. I entered the fair and began to move from on stall to another with great interest. There were about
300 book- stalls installed by different publishing houses. I saw all sorts of books such as fictions, novels,
poetry, children’s books etc. Men, women and children of all classes and ages gathered in the fair. Many of
them were found exchanging greetings with the customers. Books were being sold at discount rates. Many
rare books were also available in the fair. I wished I could have purchased all the books. However, I had not
that means. At last I purchased only two books named “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare. “Manab mukut” by
Eakub ali Chowdhury. In the evening, many poets, novelists and writers came to visit the fair. I many of them
and took their autographs. A cultural programme was also held in the fair. I was very delighted to enjoy a
staged drama based on the language movement of 1952. I was very delighted visiting such a fair. I gathered
some new experiences there.
Mobile Phone
Now a day’s mobile phone has become an important medium of communication. It helps inter communication
with the people in the shortest possible time. It helps all walks of people to communicate among themselves.
The use of mobile phone is more convenient than land phone. The man who calls has to pay the bill but the
recipient can respond without any payment. Through a mobile phone one can now send short messages to
any mobile number all over the world. It is so cheap that people frequently use this service to communicate
with people living home and abroad. It is very useful for all. Especially businessmen are very much benefited
through the use of mobile phone. They can maintain all kinds of communication with their parties by using it.
At present by using this device we can browse internet, watch TV listen to radio program, get breaking news ,
take photos, record videos etc. So, mobile phone has got diverse utilities at present. It has saved our time
and money and it has saved us from hassles. However, it is also used by the criminals to commit crimes but
the govt. has made it compulsory to register their mobile SIMs to identify the criminals. Above all, it has
become a great boon for us.
Computer
Computer is one of the most wonderful inventions of modern science. It is a machine that works according to
the commands given to it. It can do quick calculations, store and retrieve information. Its main feature is
speed and accuracy. Charles Babbage invented this powerful instrument. It has been developed by other
scientists gradually. A computer performs the following functions- i) it receives data ii) it processes data iii) it
emits data. A computer has three major parts. These are central processing unit (CPU), monitor, and
keyboard. CPU looks like a box. It has a mother board, the chip, the cards, and the RAMs in it. Besides, there
is a mouse connected to the computer. We can find our expected information by clicking the icon with the
mouse. Computer has a great importance in various fields. The use of computer in commerce and trade is
remarkable. It is being used in education sector. Moreover, computer is playing a vital role in airlines,
railways, shops, laboratories, hospitals, libraries etc. It is also used to prepare electric bills, record telephonic
conversations and send e-mails. In the field of medical diagnosis and printing technology computer is showing
its wonder. In fact, it has reduced our workload and made our life comfortable and easy.
Tree Plantation
Tree Plantation means to plan trees. Tree Plantation is needed for the sake of our existence. Trees are our
greatest friends. They give us shade and soothe our eyes with their green colour. They give us various kinds of
fruits. They give us firewood as fuel for cooking. They give us timber for furniture, boats, electric poles, railway
slippers etc. They give us rubber too. Trees help us to survive by taking in carbon dioxide and producing oxygen.
They cause rainfall and prevent drought. Trees by the road and coastal areas prevent erosion and tidal bore.
However, it is a matter of regret that many selfish people cut down trees at random for their own interest. Even
some greedy forest officers are found to be involved in such crime. Besides, due to cyclones we lose many trees
every year. So, our vast forest lands are losing trees everyday. As a result, we are facing extreme weather
events. As trees are closely related to our existence, we should make all out efforts to afforest the unused lands
of our country. We can make people conscious through meetings and seminars. Mass media can also play a vital
role here. If we cut one tree, we should plant two trees. ‘Clean Bangladesh, Green Bangladesh’ should be our
slogan. Above all, tree Plantation is part and parcel of our existence.
