LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET No. 1

The Earth`s Subsystem

Our planet is remarkably special and unique. It is, by far, the only one we know that is able to
support life. In this activity, you will explore why earth is the only planet that support life, its
characteristics, its subsystems, and its rock forming minerals using their physical and chemical
properties.

Objectives:
The learners will be able to:
∙ describe the characteristics of earth that are necessary to support life.
∙ explain that the earth consists of four subsystems, across whose boundaries matter and
energy flow.

Preliminary Activity:
Direction: Solve the crossword puzzle below about the origin of universe and characteristics of planet
by filling in a word that fits each clue.

Down:
BIGBANG1. it is theory that refers to the
explosion
and expanding of universe
MARS2. It is the fourth planet in universe
Across:
JUPITER1. It is the biggest planet
MOON2. It is natural satellite orbiting earth.
EARTH3. Habitable planet

Activity #1. WORD SEARCH

Direction: In the first box, locate the given words in the grid, running in one of five possible directions
horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. In second box, write the words that you’ve been found and
describe it by your own words.

Answer:
FOUND WORDS DESCRIBE IT BY YOUR OWN WORDS
1.Atmosphere – The gases that surround the planet.
2.Earth – Its magnetic field is treated in the article geomagnetic field.
3.Heat – Is energy in transfer to or from a thermodynamic system.
4Water – It is inorganic,transparent,colorless and odorless.
5.Air – The invisible gaseous substance surrounding the earth,
a mixture mainly of oxygen and nitrogen.
