Abilities
Immortality
The first characteristic is the immortality of a phoenix. It is then connected
with the so-called Burning Day.
Burning Day was the name of the day in
which a Phoenix bursted into flame and was reborn
from the ashes. A Phoenix at this stage of its life was
described as "decrepit-looking" and resembling "a
half-plucked turkey". After bursting into flame, the
Phoenix emerged from its own ashes as a newborn,
which Harry Potter regarded as "quite as ugly as the
old one".
In this day, they look as if their feathers are
falling. During this time, they regenerate themselves
after bursting into flames and becomes ashes. After a
few moments, they will rise again from the ashes as
a chick. But there are no records as to how they
reproduce, we can assume that somehow, it is like how birds reproduce. That is
how their life cycle is, since they are deemed to be immortal.
Healing Tears
Next is their healing ability, with the use of their tears. Their tears had potent
healing capabilities. For instance, phoenix tears were the only known antidote to
basilisk venom. Also, it is known that their tears were also able to bring a person
back even from the brink of death.
Immense Strength
A phoenix can lift up to four (4) people holding their tails. It was stated that
their tails are hot to the touch, but there is an exception, because they can control
the temperature of their body.
Apparate or Disapparate
One more ability is the ability to disappear and reappear at will. Technically,
they can teleport from one place to another. Phoenixes are also known to deliver
messages just like owls do, but as they disappear, they leave a single gold tail
feather on the spot they have disapparated with.
Phoenix Lament
Next is the Phoenix Lament or this is actually a song they sing. Its tunes are
known to touch the soul, in positive or negative ways. Its most powerful
performances are known to be present when the Phoenix suffers emotional
instability or distress, such as the death of its master. This song was reputed to
increase the courage of the pure of heart, and to strike fear into the hearts of the
impure. They give courage to those pure of heart once this is heard. While it strikes
fear to those who are impure.
Phoenix Egg
There are known phoenix eggs in the Wizarding
World, although not enough sources can support as to
how they are produced. A phoenix egg was the egg from
which a phoenix was hatched. Phoenix eggs were glossy
green or blue in color. They do not need incubation in
order to hatch; however, it sometimes took several years
for one to hatch. Just like a full-grown phoenix, these
eggs can also control their temperature, thus the different duration of their hatching
process.
Phoenix Feather
Phoenix feather was one of the three
supreme core types. It was one of the rarest
cores, with the greatest power range and whose
allegiance is hard won. These are used in making
wands. And the known wands with this kind of core are the wands of Harry and
Voldemort.
