A Guide to One Semester Scholarship Program

for the students from ASEAN Countries

Term of Scholarships :
The home university must permit its students to participate in the program all through the
duration of one semester but not more than 4 months at Chulalongkorn University.
Provisions of the Scholarships :
The scholarships will cover the following :
1. An economy class round-trip ticket (actual paid but not more than 7,500 baht) to and from
designated capital cities or principal cities.
2. Tuition and Fees (special fees by the program is excluded)
3. Stipend and accommodation in the amount of 16,000 baht/month.
Eligibility of Applicants :
1. Applicants who is now studying an undergraduate or graduate student
2. Applicants must undertake a study at Chulalongkorn University for at least 12 credits for
Bachelor’s level and at least 6 credits for Master’s and Doctoral level. The subject of study should correspond
to the major or minor subjects of the applicant. For further information of the program can be visit:

3. Applicants must have a good command of English.
4. Applicants must be in good health.
5. Applicants must not be recipients of other types of scholarships.
Documents Required for Application :
1. Completed application form with 1-inch-colored photo.
2. A nomination letter from the home institution.
3. An official transcript of academic record (to be issued by the institute presently being attended)
4. A copy of passport.
Application Procedures :
1. Applicants must send the completed application form and relevant documents directly to
the faculty/program of their choice.
Please note that the application date and selection schedule of the applicants has set by
each of the faculty/program.
2. Applicants must be screened and accepted by the faculty/program of their choice before being
sent to the Office of Academic Affairs, Chulalongkorn University and the eligible applications must be
sent by the faculty’s admitted to the Academic Affairs office not later than November 15, 2018.
Neither personal nor directly application form applicants to the Office of Academic Affairs will be
accepted.
Noted that, the application date and selection schedule of the applicants has set by each of
faculty/program. The applications should send the application form and relevant documents to the
faculty/program at least 2 weeks before the University deadline.

A Guide to the Scholarship Program for ASEAN Countries

Recognizing the importance of internationalization, Chulalongkorn University has taken a


leading role in implementing interactive collaboration with the international community. In order to
further develop academic cooperation between Thailand and its ASEAN Countries, the University
has established a “Scholarship Program for ASEAN Countries” to provide academic assistance
to international students from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines,
Singapore, Brunei, and Vietnam to pursue their studies at Chulalongkorn University at graduate level.

Term of Scholarships :
Master’s degree scholarship
Two years (not over 2 years, starting from January 2019 to December 2020)
Doctoral degree scholarship
Three years (not over 3 years, starting from January 2019 to December 2022)

Provisions of the Scholarships :


The scholarships will cover the following :
1.Economy class round-trip ticket (actual paid but not more than 8,500 baht) to and from
designated capital cities or principal cities.
2.Tuition Fees (tuition fees for faculty/special fees by the program are excluded)
3.Stipend and accommodation in the amount of 16,000 baht/month.

Conditions of Scholarships:
1.The scholarship period cannot be extended.
2.The recipients are not permitted to postpone a period of the scholarship
acceptance as proposed by Chulalongkorn University.
3.The recipients are not permitted to accept any employment in Thailand during the
term of their scholarships.
Eligibility of Applicants :
1.Applicants must be an international graduated students from ASEAN Countries.
Researcher, academic staff or a faculty member who will return to teach/work at their home
universities after graduation from Chulalongkorn University is preferred.
2.Applicants must have completed Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree as appropriate
in related fields. Certificate’s Degree and Official Transcript are required.
3.Applicants must have a grade point average not lower than 2.75 for undergraduate,
and not lower than 3.25 for graduate.
4.Applicants’ age must be less than 35.
5.Applicants must have a good command of English. A minimum TOEFL score of 500
or 173 Computer-based or IELTS score of 5.0 is required.
6.Applicants must be in good health.
7.Applicants must not be recipients of other types of scholarships.

6.Two recommendation letters from the Head, the Director, the Dean which the
applicant belongs.
7. Physical examination certificate from a hospital in candidates’ home countries.

Application Procedures :

2. Applicants must be screened and recruited by the faculty/program of their choice
before being sent to the Office of Academic Affairs, Chulalongkorn University and the eligible
application documents from the faculty of they were screened must arrive at Academic Affairs office
not later than November 15, 2018. Neither personal nor directly applications from applicants to the
Office of Academic Affairs will be accepted.

Appendix

Conditions of Scholarships:
1.The scholarship period cannot be extended.
2. The recipients are not permitted to postpone a period of the scholarship acceptance as
proposed by Chulalongkorn University.
3. The recipients are not permitted to accept any employment in Thailand during the term of
their scholarships.
4. The recipients must residence in Thailand during the scholarship period
In case of the scholarship recipient whishes to leave Thailand during the semester,
he/she has to inform the University of his/her departure through the Advisor where he/she is
studying and the advisor must give assurance that his/her absence will not interrupt his/her
studies. Once the request is approved by the University, the scholarship recipient will be able to
depart. In this regard, the University will not be responsible for the airfare. If his/her absence
is more than 10 days, he/she will not be entitled to the living allowance for the month (s) of
his/her absence.
5. The scholarship recipients must submit a study reports and study progress with the approval
from thesis advisor to the Office of Academic Affairs, Chulalongkorn University at the end of each
semester.

Health insurance :
Chulalongkorn University has a health service center facility. However, Foreign students must
have comprehensive health insurance policy to cover medical services in case of serious illness
requiring hospitalization. If not, all medical expenses incurred will be borne by recipients.

Suspension and termination of scholarships :


These scholarships will be suspended or terminated for the following reasons :
1. Serious illness of recipients.
The scholarship recipient is deemed to be seriously ill and not physically fit to carry on with
his/her studies.
2. GPA lower than 3.00 in 2 consecutive semesters.
3. Absence of scholarship recipients without notice or reasonable explanation.
Student departs Thailand for over 10 days without the consent of his/her academic advisor and
the approved by the University.

1. General Information
1.1 Brief Introduction
Chulalongkorn University, the Kingdom’s first public university, was established in 1917 by His Majesty King
Vajiravudh (Rama VI); the University was named after the King’s father, His Majesty King Chulalongkorn (Rama V).
The University extends over a 456-acre tract of land granted by its founder. In the succeeding years,
Chulalongkorn University, or “Chula” for short, has grown to become a comprehensive university, which offers
over 500 programs in almost all areas of study. The University’s numerous programs, including nearly 90
international programs, cover all fields of study, both traditional academic disciplines and interdisciplinary
studies. The present enrollment is approximately 40,000 students, 2/3 is undergraduate students and 1/3 is
graduate students.
