Staff Health Doctor - Damascus

Permanently present in Syria since 1967, the ICRC is a neutral, impartial, and independent organization with an exclusively humanitarian
mission. The ICRC works closely with and supports the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) to meet food, water, and
health needs of people affected by the fighting in both emergencies and to help them start rebuilding their lives. They work together to raise awareness about risks from mines and other explosive remnants. The ICRC works to restore links between families
who have been separated by the conflict and migration, visits a number of prisons, promotes respect for international humanitarian law. The ICRC also provides advice and support to local authorities and forensics practitioners in managing human remains
with respect and dignity. The ICRC's operation in Syria is its largest in the world, with over 650 staff working in its offices in Damascus, Aleppo, Hama, Hassakeh, Homs, and Tartous.
ICRC Syria is seeking to recruit a:

Staff Health Officer / Doctor
Based in Damascus
Purpose & Scope of your role:
Staff Health Officer / Doctor is the focal point for all matters related to the health of ICRC staff in the Syria. In line with ICRC staff health strategy and
in collaboration with medical personnel on the spot, s/he promotes and maintains the physical and mental health of ICRC staff and implements the
staff health strategy in seven identified domains: 1. Staff health policy; 2. Prevention; 3. Health care and medical emergencies; 4. Stress management
and crisis situations; 5. Health insurances; 6. Management of medical information; 7. Monitoring, assessment and
feedback.
Main responsibilities:
 Assess the living conditions, promote general hygiene standards (e.g. housing, use of mosquito nets, water filters, hygiene standards of cooks
and cleaners, nutritional advice).
 Evaluate the available medical structures and quality of services provided; identify and monitor services for the referral and treatment of ICRC
staff.
 Comply guidelines and procedures to be followed during the medical evacuation of personnel from the field or out of the country.
 Collect accurate and reliable data on illnesses, accidents and absenteeism, with a view to providing statistics on illnesses and the medical risks
taken by all staff.
 Review medical invoices for anonymization and approval of medical expenses.
 Keep the medical files of Staff members confidential and medical documents are processed properly.
 Communicate with the local Health Insurance company and follow on interactions with the insurance, when needed.
 Provide advice and support to ICRC staff with health problems.
 Follow up the recruitment medical check-up request and send the results on time.
 Ready and available to respond to medical emergencies and inquiries from the staff 24/7.
 Ready to visit the other structure for support when needed.
Minimum Qualifications and Professional Experience Required:

 Medical doctor.
 Fluent knowledge of local English and Arabic.
 Computer proficiency.
 Three years' clinical experience.
 Experience in mental health and stress management.
 Knowledge of tropical health and public health.
