1. Preamble:
Heat Shrinkable lnsulation sleeves/Tubes are used on crimped lugsiCable Joints to
protect against short circuiugrounding and low lR value due to moisture. Also Heat
shrinkable tubes are provided on crimped lugs to avoid short circuitang from the nearby
cable lug connections. The heat shrinkable insulation tubes are meant for giving
mechanical as well as electrical protection.

Definitions:

Throughout this document, the terms;

a) 'lR' means Government of lndia, Ministry of Railways and Railway Board, New Delhi
or its Nominees.

b) 'EMD' means Electro Motive Division of General Motors/USA.

c) 'DLW means Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasl221OO4.

d) 'lnspecting Office/ means the person, firm or department nominated by IR/DLW to

3, Scope: The specification is valid for EMD Part numbers covered by Drawings
Nos. 40027278, 40057966 and DRG18531799.
4. Brief Description:
The insulation sleeves (Heat shrinkable) are to be used with E-Beam cables to give
crimped lug joints .The mechanical strengrth with airtight bonding alone with electrical
insulation.

5. Design Requirement:

5.1 The manufacturing of Heat shrinkable lnsulation tubes shall be highest standard

5.3 Specification:

Material : As per drawings specification and cable below (To be specified by the
Tenderer with the quote).

Adhesive Liner: High temperature lining (on inner surface) that melts and flows inside
sleeve or molded part, filling any voids in between the sub states and the sleeve or molded
part. Lining should melt only at prescribed heat shrinking temperature for the sleeves.
Adhesive liner should be used as per table below.

Material shall be inspected after receipt at destination and in case any defect, damage
or discrepancy is noticed, joint inspection shall be canied out with the firm. The
standard IR/DLW condition of contract shall be applicable.
