Title 1: School Absenteeism among Students

Reason/s why I chose this topic:
This topic is researchable that’s why I choose this topic because there are many reasons why students
doesn’t go to school, in short “absenteeism”. There are many questions that can include to the SOP like, students
reason of absenteeism, possible outcome/effect of not going to school, possible causes of absenteeism, about
absenteeism and many more.

Title 2: Factors that Influence a Child’s Decisions to Read Outside-Of-School

Reason/s why I chose this topic:
This topic is also researchable, that’s why I choose this because I want to know the factors that
influence a child’s decision to read outside of school, as well as the differences and similarities among avid and
reluctant readers from diverse economic backgrounds across some categories like home life and preschool
experiences, personal thoughts about reading, reading preferences, etc. I chose this topic because there are children
that choose to read outside of school rather on school itself.

Activity 2

From your proposed research study present your written Statement of the Problem which comprises the following
sections: ()

1. Background of the Study (Introduction)

According to Wikipedia.com, small businesses are privately owned corporations,

partnerships or sole proprietors that have fewer employees and/or less annual revenue than a regular
sized business/corporation. We can see that many small businesses are sole proprietor operations
consisting solely of the owner, but small business can have a small number of employees.

Most home-based business entrepreneurs build a small business like convenience

stores, small grocery stores and bakeries or delicatessens. The 2016 List of Establishments of the
Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) recorded a total of 915,726 business enterprises operating in the
Philippines. Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) account for 99.57% (911,768) of the total
establishments, of which 89.63% (820,795) were microenterprises, 9.50% (86,955) were small
enterprises, and 0.44% (4,018) were medium enterprises. Large enterprises made up the remaining
0.43% (3,958).

Most people who simultaneously engage in work, 83.3% (Gas, 2014). Developed a
business based on what you know-smart entrepreneurship take hobbies and interest, and term them
into profitable businesses. Your passions should guide you through your small business path. The
reason is that you are entering into a business in which you know the product and those who have
similar interest.
The entrepreneurs of Aurora, Isabela have different marketing strategies in
developing and improving their business. It is also considered as a small business. This home-based
business is a sole proprietorship which has a low income compare to the big businesses. The life of
this business is limited because once the owner dies, the business will cease to operate under the name
of the proprietor. The advantages of this business are easy to form and operate and the owner keeps all
profit.

2. Statement of the Problem

The study aimed to determine the marketing strategies of home-based business entrepreneurs
in Aurora, Isabela.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:
1. What nature of business do they have?
2. What types of home-based business are common in Aurora?
3. What are the advantages of home-based business?
4. What are the disadvantages of home-based business?

3. Scope and Delimitation of the Study

This study entitled “Marketing Strategies of Home-based Business Entrepreneurs in
Aurora, Isabela” was conducted in Aurora, Isabela from April, 2021. The researchers purposively
select twenty home-based entrepreneurs to answer a questionnaire to answer the problems of the study.

Activity 1 What is the importance of a good literature review in a research paper? Elaborate your answer in 4-5
sentences.

The importance of a good literature review in a research paper it to provide foundation of knowledge on
topic, it provides insights into the theoretical/conceptual background of the study, identify areas of prior
scholarship to prevent duplication and give credit to other researchers, identifies gaps in research, conflicts in
previous studies, open questions left from other research. You can use literature review to demonstrate your
understanding of the subject matter, this means identifying, summarizing and critically assessing past research that
is relevant to your own work.

Activity 2

List key words or phrases coming from your research title. Then opposite to each term is a possible source material
that you can use as reference for your study. You may browse from the internet or materials such as books,
newspapers, and magazines you have at home. Follow the format on the next page in accomplishing the task.

steps presented in this lesson. Write it on a separate sheet of paper.

This chapter presents the review of related literature and related past studies. The researchers prefer the

following studies and literature because of their significance and simplicity to the study that currently conducting.

These show the different ideas and the knowledge of the different professionals and writers about marketing

strategy of home-based entrepreneurs that will help in better understanding of the topics.

The related literature and studies have significant connection with the current study for the reason that both

are giving ideas and discuss the marketing strategies with different methods and the effect of it in the home-based

entrepreneurs. Some studies examined the impact of assessing marketing strategies in the specific firm or

organization. By reviewing the past study and literature, the researchers found out that marketing strategy are very

important in a home-based business and how it help to improve businesses. This research is conducted despite of

many past studies which have been conducted related to the current study. The researchers were convinced that the

current study would be valued as an additional reference that can give further knowledge and can use by future

researchers as a reference for their incoming study. The researchers were also convinced that the current study

would be identified as a specific solution to the future researchers and can be used for a long time.

Activity 2: Continue what you have started in your research proposal. After writing the Introduction, Background
of the Study, Statement of the Problem, Scope and Delimitation and Significance of the study, formulate the
Review of Related Literature of your Research Study.

A. Related Literature

A home-based business allows an entrepreneur to start a small business without the expense of

purchasing a building or equipment. However, because you're not operating in a high-traffic location with a large

sign outside your building, marketing your business can present a challenge. Some tips for marketing your home-

based business may help you get the word out about your enterprise, (Chris Joseph)

According to inc.com, a home-based business is any enterprise for which the principal administrative

and managerial activities take place within an individual's personal residence. People start home-based business

ventures for a wide variety of reasons. Home-based businesses have become a significant trend in recent years.

Once viewed as a way for an unemployed person to make some money until a "real" job came along, home-based

businesses are now taken much more seriously. Today, home-based businesses run the gamut from consulting

firms and advertising agencies to photography studios and free-lance writing services.

Marketing strategy focuses on what you want to achieve for your business and marketing efforts.

Marketing plan details how you'll achieve those goals. A good marketing strategy incorporates what you know
about how your business fits into the market and the 5 Ps of marketing to develop the tactics and actions that will

achieve your marketing objectives, (Randy Duermyer 2018).

Marketing Strategy is considered as an important principle to organize and appropriate allocation of the

organizational resources to financial profit to the consumers which will help to the organization in the recognition

of the organizational resources constraints, analysis, recognition and market segmentation and will help to

understand the characteristics of the components market and can be useful in developing and achieving one clear

organizational perspective (Shafi'i, 2013).

The major advantages of a home-based business are that you do not have a sizeable expenditure on

office rental or office purchase, save time and money by cutting your commute, can be flexible around the hours

you work, can avoid the distractions and noise of the workplace and are taking less of a risk with your new

business as less start-up money is required.

The disadvantages of a home-based business are it may prove difficult to keep work and home-life

separate, and there may be domestic distractions and interruptions, a lack of contact with other people and

businesses, you might end up working long hours, you may feel a sense of isolation if you are working alone at

home with few social interactions on a day-to-day basis andyour mortgage, home insurance and tax situation may

be affected (nibusinessinfo.co.uk)

B. Related Studies

Based on the study entitled “Online home based businesses” by Anwar, Muhammad Naveed and Daniel,

Elizabeth M. (2014), Home based businesses account for a significant proportion of all businesses in both

developed and developing economies. They are highly heterogeneous and therefore studies in the domain should

focus on distinct types of home based businesses. This study describes a systematic review of the literature that

addresses online home based businesses. The review addresses three related topics: the development of an up to

date definition, identification of the salient characteristics of online home based business entrepreneurs and their

businesses and the proposal of an agenda for future research. This review shows that certain characteristics are

more salient in online home based entrepreneurs and their businesses. We describe how the salient characteristics

of the businesses are inter-related with those of the entrepreneurs, suggesting these businesses attract different

types of individuals and hence broaden access to the social and economic benefits that entrepreneurship can yield.

According to Elizabeth M Daniel, MariaLaura Di Domenico, Seema Sharma (2014) who conduct the

study “Effectuation and Home-based Online Business Entrepreneurs,” there are three key concerns for the home-

based business sector the viability of individual home-based businesses; the sustainability of home-based

businesses as a sector of the economy; and the potential for growth from individual or clusters of home-based
businesses to mainstream businesses. These concerns have been a significant platform for research of home-based

businesses. This article explores effectual processes within home-based, online businesses. Our empirical evidence

provides a number of refinements to the concept of effectuation in this specific domain. First, the ubiquity of non-

proprietary online trading platforms encourages the adoption of effectual approaches and removes the importance

of forming proprietary strategic alliances and pre-commitments. Second, the notion of affordable loss – a central

tenet of effectuation – should be extended beyond the notion of economic to social affordable loss, including loss

of status and reputation, and finally, home-based online businesses allow effectuation to be associated with low

levels of entrepreneurial self-efficacy and experience

According to the study “Marketing Strategies for Profitability in Small Independent Restaurants” by

Wanda Y. Jenkins, the restaurant industry is the second largest employer in the United States; however only 33%of

restaurants are successful during the first 3years of operation. The purpose of this exploratory multiple case study

was to determine what marketing strategies small independent restaurant owners need for profitability. Aaker’s

brand equity model was the conceptual framework used to ground this study. Using a purposeful criterion

sampling technique and semi structured interviews, 12 individuals (2 managers and 2 employees from 3

restaurants in Philadelphia) Participated in the study. Data collected from interviews and archival business records

were analyzed to generate themes, also allowing for triangulation. Five marketing strategy themes emerged from

this study: word of mouth and social media marketing, limited financial resources, product differentiation and

atmosphere, blogging and using the point of sale (POS) system, and employee engagement and upselling.

Participants stated that word of mouth and social media marketing were powerful strategies that small independent

restaurant owners should use to retain customers and gain new customers. Participants noted that product

differentiation and atmosphere are unique characteristics that guide marketing strategies, brand positioning, and

influence competitive advantage and profitability. Implications for positive social change include business

development opportunities, opening resource centers for training programs, and free webinars associated with

marketing and brand equity strategies. Communities, organizations, and new entrepreneurs will benefit from

positive social change from the increase of social resources, community economic growth, employment

opportunities, and sustainability.
