“PNAA Balik-Turo 2022.”

The Webinar taught us, listeners, mostly seven topics and I am thankful and blessed that I
attended this today. The first one discussed the Power of the Storytelling narrative. It helps aspiring
nursing students like me to listen to other personal stories and experiences. There are pages on
social media that they created that serve as a tool for us to be aware and increase public awareness
of how this pandemic affected many of us, particularly our Filipino American Nurses. Their goals are
to be more focused on emotional support for the nurses and to provide them with educational
programs. The American Nurses Association also addressed the issues of racism in nursing. Being
caring and showing kindness to the nurses may help them in their healing process. Speaker Ms.
Willie Manzano added that the secret weapon to enhance our leadership skills is to practice public
awareness and be true to yourself.

These Nurses in the United States are facing different types of challenges and innovations in
nursing education. They discussed the benefits of baccalaureate education in nurses. Nurses that
received this kind of certification have more opportunities or doors to know more about nursing
organizations. They have seen that nurses who graduated with baccalaureate education will make
fewer medical errors that lack diversity in nursing. Still, almost 80,407 qualified applicants have been
turned away every year who because of a lack of faculty and clinical sites. Next, Dr. Remegio added
the importance of having effective communication. This is one of the skills that nurses must-have. I
know that this topic will really help me soon when I will become a nurse. I can use this during
working hours at the workplace. Effective communication can save lives and this skill will help us
future nurses to be competent and to function effectively not just in our society but also in
healthcare.

Covid-19 brought us a pandemic, people were quarantined from being tested positive. Some of
them are adults but this virus also affects especially young children. Kawasaki-like syndrome in
children was also compared to coronavirus in children. It was said that coronavirus in children may
be an asymptomatic or mild diseases process. While, in Kawasaki syndrome children may have a
fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, red eyes, rashes, etc. This topic was very
informative and the speaker said that, as future nurses, having a proper and correct assessment of
our patients is a very important skill that nurses must possess. In conclusion, this Webinar taught me
that not just Filipino nurses here in the Philippines are the ones who are experiencing hardships in
healthcare but also those Filipino Nurses in other countries. It reminds students that want to enter
nursing courses that if you will take this type of profession you must have been ready and love what
you are doing. I know that being self-aware, being kind, and happy also lead us to success. If we love
what we are doing we will be successful. Aside from the lessons that I learned, my favorite speaker
Ms. Willie Manzano’s line reminds me that, “Success that tends to stay with us from the lessons are
not the once that connects us but ones truly help us connect the dots are our own experiences,
appreciating and observing the life of our mentors and real-life leaders”.
