The Bible does not present any argument for the existence of God; it takes the FACT of God for
granted. God is the infinite and perfect Spirit in Whom all things have their source, support, and end.
The Word of God reveals God to us. Because God is infinitely beyond our human comprehension, the
Bible has to describe God in human language, which is far too inadequate.
Answer: No one! God is eternal. The fact that we cannot completely understand this does not
make it false. (We may not understand how electricity makes the lights work — but why sit around in
the dark until we figure it out!) Look up Hebrews 11:6. Those that come to God must
Man has a “religious nature” which is unique to humankind. All men in all ages and in all
civilizations have manifested a belief in a Higher Being. Most times this belief is perverted — but it
demonstrates that there is a Higher Being. Look up: Romans 2:14,15. This verse teaches that even
those who have never heard of the Lord have His law written in their H__ __ __ __ __.
B. The Fact That Everything Must Have a Creator Proves There is a God.
Man is an intelligent being; therefore his Creator must also be intelligent. Man has personality;
thus his Creator could not be impersonal.
C. The Fact of Intricate Design in the Universe Proves There is a God.
A watch not only requires a watchmaker, but also a designer and a purpose.

Many times God has intervened in human history, and His hand is often seen in the rise and fall
of nations. See: Psalm 75:6, 7.
If there is a God, it is reasonable to expect Him to reveal Himself to man. He has done this —
first through creation, then (in detail) through His Word. Look up Genesis 1:1. The Bible begins with
God — not philosophical arguments for His existence. The Bible never tried to prove that there is a
God. It assumes from the beginning that God exists… “In the beginning, GOD…” (Genesis 1:1)
This one God eternally, equally, and essentially exists as T__ __ __ __ persons:

Bible teaches there is one God but three Persons in the Godhead. Trinity (Tri = three and nity is
short for unity) means “three-in-one.” While we cannot fully understand the trinity, we can explain it
generally by using an illustration of a glass of ice water: As can be seen, there is one nature (water)
existing in three distinct phases. Each phase may exist separately, or with another, or all together. You
have the vapor or gas of water, the solid in the form of ice, and the liquid water. An egg can also
represent the three phases in the form of the shell (God the father), the egg white (God the Son), and
the yolk (God the Holy Spirit). All three parts make up the whole egg. Even though I am one person,
to my children, I am their father (like God the Father). To my earthly father, I am his son (like God the
Son). To my church congregation, I am their pastor or spiritual guide (like God the Holy Spirit).
While these examples give us some idea of the trinity, we will never fully understand the trinity until
we get to Heaven.

All these are the characteristics of personality. (There are some that think God is just an
impersonal “Force” or that He is in all of “Nature.”)
If we examined God’s creation, we would discover Him to be Mighty, Glorious, and Majestic,
but it is through the Bible that
God reveals Himself completely. No man will ever be able to comprehend the essence of God
(what He is). It is only through His attributes that God makes Himself known to finite man.

VI. WHAT IS GOD CALLED?
There are three primary Hebrew words used to designate “God” in the Old Testament.
A. “Elohim” — which is translated “GOD” in our English Bible. (The Greek equivalent in
the New Testament is “Theos.”) This speaks of God’s greatness.
B. “Adonai” — which is translated “Lord” in our English Bible. This means that God is the
Master.
1. To distinguish “Jehovah” from “Adonai,” the translators of the Authorized King James
Bible had it printed in capital letters.
2. The meaning of “Jehovah” is given in Exodus 3:13, 14: “I AM THAT I AM” — “The Self-
Existent One Who Reveals Himself.”
3. The word “Jesus” is the Greek form of the Hebrew “Joshua,” and literally means
“Jehovah-Savior.” The New Testament clearly teaches that Jesus IS Jehovah.

You can know God as your Father, your Heavenly Father. This is a blessing of having your sins
forgiven and having received His gift of eternal life.
Read Luke 15:11-32. This parable, given by Christ, teaches the relationship between God the
Father and His children. Consider the following comparisons:
4. Filling his belly with the husks that the swine did eat (v. 16) = The consequences of our
sins
5. The younger son “coming to himself” thinking “I will arise and go to my father”, and
saying “I have
6. The actions on the father’s part when he sees his son returning = Forgiveness (God
forgiving us of our sins.)
