1 -What is El Poncherazo?
El Poncherazo is how the experience of taking a photo was popularly known in the
days of the grandparents, when there were no digital cameras or smartphones.
The Poncherazo photographer was a popular character who between 1900 and
1970 took cheap and fast photographs in the towns of our region. At that time
taking a photo was very different, because the photographic process had many
and very complicated steps.
Capturing images took time and was so expensive that photographers in large
studios took 15 days to deliver the portrait and charged the equivalent of what a
good cell phone costs today.
El Poncherazo is a room in the Víztaz Museum, whose purpose is to keep alive

this traditional art and craft of Medellín and Antioquia. You can live the experience
that grandparents had 80 years ago when they took their first photograph. In the
house of El Poncherazo they will take a photo of you with the same camera,
technique and materials of that time and in ten minutes you will travel to the past,

We live in a world full of digital images, with cameras built into practically any
mobile device where in addition to taking photos, we can at the same time view
and store them. However, in its origin, photography was born as the art of
obtaining images thanks to the action of light, and to arrive at photography as we
know it today, a whole process had to go through that involved different devices
throughout history. .
It all started in 1839 with the Frenchman Louis Daguerre, who created and
developed the daguerreotype, the first tool created for taking photographs. Like all
newcomers, it had its drawbacks: long exposure times and copies could not be
made, in addition to the harmful effects of mercury vapors for health.

¿Qué es El Poncherazo?
. El Poncherazo es como popularmente se le conocía a la experiencia de tomarse

una foto en la época de los abuelos, cuando no existían cámaras digitales ni
teléfonos inteligentes. El fotógrafo del Poncherazo era un personaje popular que
entre 1900 y 1970 tomaba fotografías económicas y rápidas en los pueblos de
nuestra región. En esa época tomarse una foto era muy distinto, pues el proceso
fotográfico tenía muchos y muy complicados pasos.
Capturar imágenes tomaba tiempo y era costoso tanto así, que los fotógrafos en
los grandes estudios se demoraban 15 días para entregar el retrato y cobraban
por ello el equivalente a lo que hoy cuesta un buen celular.
El Poncherazo es una sala del Museo Víztaz, que tiene como propósito mantener
vivo este arte y oficio tradicional de Medellín y Antioquia. Usted puede vivir la
experiencia que tuvieron los abuelos hace 80 años cuando se tomaron su primera
fotografía. En la casa de El Poncherazo le tomarán una foto con la misma cámara,
técnica y materiales de esa época y en diez minutos viajará al pasado, conocerá el
proceso clásico del revelado en blanco y negro y llevará a su casa un recuerdo
inolvidable: su poncherazo en papel fotográfico para que le dure toda la vida.

Vivimos en un mundo lleno de imágenes digitales, con cámaras integradas en

al mismo tiempo verlas y almacenarlas. Sin embargo, en su origen la fotografía
nació como el arte de obtener imágenes gracias a la acción de la luz, y para llegar
a la fotografía como la conocemos actualmente, tuvo que pasar todo un proceso
que involucró distintos aparatos a lo largo de la historia.
Todo comenzó en 1839 con el francés Louis Daguerre, quien creó y desarrolló el
daguerrotipo, la primer herramienta creada para tomar fotografías. Como todo
debutante tenía sus inconvenientes: largos tiempos de exposición y no podían
realizarse copias, además de lo dañinos para la salud que resultaban los vapores
de mercurio.
