Calyx M is a product made for people who love music and want to listen no matter when
or where they are. The M is made by designers and engineers who have a passion for
music as well as for the product itself.

Calyx M is easy to operate but please read this manual carefully before using it.

Please enjoy your new Calyx M.

Caution: How to insert external memory cards.
Please insert your memory cards into M as following as the below..
If you insert memory cards in wrong way, M can be damaged seriously.
With this case of damage, you will be asked for the cost of repair.

Overview Of Funtions
Functions are as follows

Buttons and Connections:

Upper left corner: Earphones Jack


Upper right button: Power switch
Bar at the upper right side: Volume control slider
The top button on the middle right side: Move to the previous track
The middle button on the middle right side: Replay/Pause

The bottom button on the middle right side: Move to the next track
Right corner at the bottom: Micro-USB input

Power and Charging:

Power-On: To boot up the M press the power button for 5 seconds.

You can set the current time and choose your language at the first booting.

Move to “Main” after “language select” and “time setting”.

Blinking “>” and “<” at the right and the left on the display indicate directions to move. When you swipe in those
directions, you will move to the “Library” and “Juke Box” menus.
To go to the previous menu, just swipe back.

Power-Off: Press the power button for 3-5 seconds, there will appear a prompt to leave on -” Cancel” or power
off - “OK”, choose “OK” and the device will power down.

Charging
1. Use a 5V wall-wart adaptor with USB connector and the USB-cable included in the package.
If you connect to the charger while the M is off you will not be able to turn the M on.
2. Connect the M to the charger while the M is booted on.
3. When you connect your USB cable to your computer while the M is booted on you will see the following
display.

i. Charging will start when you choose “Charge only”.

ii. You can move your music files into the M’s memory when you choose “File transfer” (Please refer to the
page11)
iii. You can use the M as a stand-alone asynchronous USB-DAC when you choose “DAC” (Please refer to the page
21)

How to identify the version of firmware and upgrade if necessary

1. You can download the latest firmware from the Notice/FAQ Board at http://www.calyx.kr
2. Please connect the M to your computer with the USB cable supplied in the package.
3. Move the firmware downloaded (without extraction of the zip file) into the internal memory of the M.
4. Disconnect your M from your computer by safe removal of hardware.
5. Press “upgrade” then the firmware upgrade will be done automatically.
6. M will be reboot with the new firmware. Please identify the version of the firmware to make sure it is correct.
Caution:
Please only do the firmware upgrade when the battery is full.

Quick View:

This menu is at the upper left corner.

When you press this icon you will move to the menu of quick-view.

Fr om the top, current time, battery status, now playing, next playing,
capacity of the internal memory, capacity of external memories, and then “Settings” menu.

When you press the arrow at the right, you will move to the menus within “Settings”

You can choose/control the following functions in the setting menu.
Lock Screen: You may use this function off or on.
Hardware Button Lock: You may lock the hardware buttons.
Gapless Playback: Music will replay in 0.5 seconds between tracks.
Screen off: You may control the time how long the screen is on.
Date and time: Set the current date and time.
Language: Choose a language.
Library Menu: Select 4 menus you use the most.
Library Scan: Scan the Library for changes.
Impedance matching: Match the device output to your headphone/input.
Volume control method: Select to use the magnetic slider or the on screen slider.
System Info: Identify your current firmware version and use the update button when you install an update.
Reset: There are two types of reset. One is the “Setting reset” which restores the M’s setting to purchased state.
The other reset is “Factory reset” which will restore setting and your music files stored internally. You may lose
your music stored in memory if you use this reset method.

Caution:
If you do reset the M you will lose your internally stored music. Please back up all the data before you do a reset.

How to move your computer music files into the M.

Common in All Operating Systems


Connect the Calyx M to your computer with the USB cable supplied in the package.

You will see the following message on the Calyx M as follows.

Press “File transfer”.

Caution:
Please do the following if your computer does not easily recognize your M.
1. Please disconnect all other USB device and stop all unnecessary programs.
2. Please try another USB port.
- Please try the USB port at the back panel instead of front panel when using a desk top computer.
3. Please connect the USB cable after M is finished booting up.
- Try the shorter USB cable in the package.
4. For XP10 you need the service pack 10 and Window Media Player 10.

Windows.
You will see the following message.

Press “File transfer”.
Windows will install a program to transfer music files into M.
After installing the program, Windows will open a message window for file transfer to the M.
Please select “Open files” and move/copy music files you want to the M.
When you’re finished moving/copying your music files, press X on the upper right corner of the M to disconnect
it from your computer.

Mac

Please go to http://www.calyx.kr and http://www.calyx.kr/xe/notice/4181, and install the program “ file_transfer”


in your Mac.
After booting the M connect it to your Mac and move/copy your music files to the M.
When finished press the X at the upper right corner on M to disconnect it from your Mac.

Install your music onto SD card / microSD card.


Format your SD card/ microSD card in “FAT32” or “NTFS”.
Copy your music files to the SD card or micro SD card..

Caution:
If your memory card is defective or corrupted music files can’t be copied. Please replace with a new card.

Search Music

When you press, you will see the followings.

Use the keyboard to search for music in your library.

Key words will remain in the history for future searches.

Listening to Music:

When you select an album in the Library, then the selected album will be fixed at the top and its tracks will
displayed below in order.
When you press the track you want, the track color changes to brown and the track will start to play.
When you press the icon at the upper right corner of the display, you will move to “Main” screen.
When you press the small album art in the center for 2 seconds the whole album art will be displayed.
This large album art will return to the Main screen in 5 seconds.

Displays:

Library:

In this mode, you have the following library menus below which can be edited in the settings. Go to Quick
View→ Settings→ Library Menu, then you can choose the 4 menus you want to use in the Library.

ALBUM: Album art will be shown for each album title. If you pinch out using the thumb and the index finger, the

display will change into text mode. By pinching in using those two fingers, you go back to the album art mode.

ARTIST: Alphabetical list of Artist’s first name.

TRACK: Alphabetical list of track titles.

FOLDER: Shows in which folder your music is in.

PLAYLIST: You can make your own play list.

SEARCH: You can find the music you want.

Main

Move to Settings.

You can see the track information currently playing.

.
You can repeat the selected track, selected album or selected playlist.

You can play randomly in the selected album or playlist.

You can see the time into the track or time remaining.

You may see how long the music has been playing

You can move quickly forward or back within the song to where you want to listen by scrolling the play bar
to the right of left.

Juke Box

This feature allows you to instantly add a collection of music you want to hear.

ADD: You can instantly add the music you choose to the Juke Box from an album, artist, track or playlist.
+PLAYLIST: You can make a new playlist with music files stored in the Juke Box.
ORGANIZE: When music files in internal memory or external memory have been changed, you can organize the
ghost date in your Juke Box.
EDIT: You can remove tracks or change the track order by pressing “EDIT” then check the box on the left of the
track to remove it or press the three dash lines on the right and drag the track to its new location.

To Un-Lock the “Screen Lock”, please drag the central image down..

USE Calyx M as a USB-DAC

Caution
Please do the following if your computer does not easily recognize your M.
1. Please disconnect all other USB device and stop all unnecessary programs.
2. Please try another USB port.
- Please try the USB port at the back panel instead of front panel when using a desk top computer.
3. Please connect the USB cable after M is finished booting up.
- Try the shorter USB cable in the package.

Windows
Please go to http://www.calyx.kr/xe/notice and download the latest driver for the Calyx M USB DAC.
Install and run the downloaded driver.
- Windows XP : Run by double-click
- Windows 7 / 8 : as in the following picture, run as Administrator.

Click ‘Next’ when you see the following..

Connect Calyx M to your computer by using the USB in the package when you see the next image.

The following message will show up when you connect M to your computer by USB cable.

Press “USB DAC”..


When you choose this menu, click the “Next” on the set up window.
If the M is not easily recognized by your computer then please refer to the caution above.
Select ‘I accept the terms of the License Agreement’ and click ‘Next’ , when the following window appear.

Please select where you installed the driver..

If you see the following window, the driver was installed successfully. Then click ‘Next’.

Installation is finished. Click “Finish’.

After the driver is successfully installed, you will have to change settings for your sound device.

Windows XP
Control -> Sound Audio Device -> Tap Audio-> Calyx M USB Audio 2.0

Control-> Hardware Sound -> Audio Device -> Replay -> XMOS USB Audio ‘Default (S)’

Tip:
You can have better sound quality in Windows 7 / 8 as followings.
Control -> Hardware Sound -> Audio Device-> Replay -> Speaker ‘XMOS USB Audio’ -> Properties ->
Advanced-> Basic format-> 24bit, 192000 Hz(Studio Quality)

Mac does not need a driver.
