    Unit 04
    Leisure time is the time when you are not
    working and you can relax and do things
    that you enjoy.

    When people engage in leisure activity,

    they have lower stress levels,


    better mood,
    a lower heart rate and
    be happy — that means less boredom, which can help

    avoid unhealthy behaviors


    Followings are few advantages whish you can get engage in sports
    1. Better Sleep

    2. A Strong Heart

    3. New Connections

    4. Improved Lung Function

    5. Increased Confidence

    6. Reduces Stress

    7. Improve Mental Health

    8. Sport Builds Leaders

    9. Develop Stronger Relationships

    10. Sport aids the healthy development of children


    Games can be categorized into three main groups and they are,

    1. Minor games

    2. Leadership games

    3. Organized games
    1. Minor games
    Minor games are simple games with few rules and are designed to

    allow students to practice skills in a challenging situation

    They have designed students to play with people, objects

    or representation and they can be played indoors or

    outdoors with a partner or in a group.

    (sometimes minor games can play individually also.)


    Traditional Minor games found in Sri Lanka are,

    Gal kireema , Iratu hangeema , Pancha dameema ,

    Dolaha dameema , Olinda keliya (Muthu keliya) ,

    Neranchi , Pol nelima , Wala kaju gaseema , Lunu paneema,

    Thachchi paneema , Elle gaseema , Chak gudu paneema,

    Onchili padima , Porapol gaseema , An adeema ,

    Kadu harambaya, Amba ata paneema , Kata gaseema


    There are five minor games which we have to learn for our syllabus,

    and they are,

    Played in pairs

    1. Hopscotch
    2. Who is the king?

    Played with a few or group of people

    3. Changing trees
    4. Stepping on poison
    5. Beat the ball
    • There are some minor games which you can be played by
    your self. They are,

    1. Skipping with a rope

    .
    2. Throwing and catching a ball

    3. Marking a square of 30cm × 30cm on a wall and


    throwing the ball to the center of the square
    from a distance
    Hopscotch

    The first player stands at the starting position in front of the first
    square and throw their shooter into square one that player then
    Hobbes over square one and goes up the course landing.
    Who is the King?
    As shown in the below diagram, both players have to push each
    other while staying in the circle.

    One who gets pushed out of the circle, will loose the game.

    Lead up Games

    Playing lead-up games is very important for you to directly acquire


    the skills you need for playing major games.

    Further, playing lead-up games helps to improve the physical fitness


    that is required for playing major games and also helps improve one’s
    mental and social fitness, too.
    Special features of lead-up
    games

    • Rules of lead-up games are simple.

    • These games can be played with or without the use of


    equipment

    • Activities can be designed to suit the availability of space and


    facilities.

    • They provide enjoyment combined with the experience of


    competitiveness.

    • Activities can be designed according to preference.
