PRAYER SERVICE FOR

DEARLY DEPARTED BELOVEDS

INTRODUCTION AND PRELIMINARIES

LEADER: May I invite everyone to silence and be

aware of the presence of God in us and
around us.

Today we come together to fulfill the

sweetest of all the spiritual works of mercy,
which is to pray for the dead, especially our
deceased loved ones and those who have
no one to pray for them.

We come here to pray with faith for our loved

ones after death especially for the souls of
our dearly departed, _____.

We then pray for them all, entrusting them to

God’s mercy, knowing that in the
communion of saints, our prayers and good
deeds can in fact help them.

And so, with confidence, we pray to God as

we say: In the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit.

ALL: Amen.

Life is not all that bad, my

friend, hmm When you feel the world
If you believe in yourself Is tumblin' down on you,
If you believe there's And you have no one
Someone That you can hold on to,
Who walks through life Just face the rising sun
without you And you'll see hope,
You'll never be alone
And there's no need to run
Just learn to reach out,
Lift up hands to God,
And open your heart
Lift up hands to God, And He'll make you feel all
And He'll show you the right.

And He said, "Cast your

OPENING PRAYER

LEADER: Father, you are all-powerful and ever-living

God. In your son Jesus Christ, who rose
from the dead, our hope of resurrection
begins.

The sadness of death gives way to the bright

promise of immortality.
Lord, for your faithful people life is changed,
not ended. Merciful Father, hear our prayers
and be gracious to us.

As we renew our faith in your son, whom you

raised from the dead, strengthen our hope
that our beloved dead, N.________, and all
our departed brothers and sisters will share
in his resurrection. We ask this through
Christ our Lord.

ALL: Amen.

(Please all be seated.)

ACCLAMATION SONG: AMAZING GRACE

Amazing Grace, how us safe thus far

sweet the sound And grace will lead us
That saved a wretch like home
me
I once was lost, but now I When we've been there
am found ten thousand years
Was blind, but now I see Bright, shining as the sun
'Twas grace that taught my We've no less days to sing
heart to fear God's praise
And grace my fears Then when we've first

The hour I first believed the sound
That saved a wretch like
Through many dangers, me
toils and snares I once was lost, but now I
We have already come am found
'Twas grace has brought Was blind, but now I see

LEADER: Let us all sit down and listen to the word of

God.

LEADER: A Reading from St. Paul’s Letter to the

Romans (Rom 6:3-9)

8|P age
Are you unaware that we who were baptized
into Christ Jesus were baptized into his
death? We were indeed buried with him
through baptism into death, so that, just as
Christ was raised from the dead by the glory
of the Father, we too might live in newness of
life.

For if we have grown into union with him

through a death like his, we shall also be
united with him in the resurrection. We know
that our old self was crucified with him, so that
our sinful body might be done away with, that
we might no longer be in slavery to sin.

For a dead person has been absolved from

sin. If, then, we have died with Christ, we
believe that we shall also live with him. We
know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies
no more; death no longer has power over him.
The Word of the Lord.

ALL: Thanks be to God!

YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE

When you walk through a storm Walk on, walk on

Hold your head up high With hope in your heart
And don't be afraid of the dark And you'll never walk alone

At the end of a storm You'll never walk alone

There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a Walk on, walk on
lark With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain You'll never walk alone
Though your dreams be tossed
