I enjoy reading novel books and I always connect with it. I usually pick my favorite character from the
story and I picture myself to be it. I imagine myself in their setting. When it comes to study books, as
soon as I start reading them, I either fall sleep or remember to do all other things except reading that
book. I have to force myself to study; otherwise, I am not interested. I don’t have any favourite author,
all I care my connectivity with the story.

have to read academic books in order to continue my school and achieve higher degree but not all of

example in recipe format- it has to start with name of the food, ingredient and how to
make it.

Learning activity 1.3

Task 1

Topic 1: Summer holidays

Main idea: Summer holidays bring out the best and worst in families.
Topic 2: Ice Creams
Main idea: Ice Creams are a good for health.
Topic 3: The alarm clock
Main idea: The alarm clock went off at seven o'clock.

two important minerals are essential minerals found in the bone, blood and soft tissue of
the body and have a role in numerous body functions. Phosphorus levels can affect calcium
levels in the body, and vice versa. Parathyroid hormone, vitamin D and the kidneys all help

Should our family buy a dog?

Dogs are affectionate animals that have a positive impact on children. A dog is a
compassionate friend, an entertainer, a protector and a teacher. Every kid dreams of
having a dog as a pet. However, many of parents think of them as smelly, hair-shedding
creatures that poop everywhere and bring dirt inside the house. Some people also
perceive them as a menace and a source of various diseases and allergies. Moreover, a
dog’s companionship helps prevent depression and loneliness. By spending time with a
dog, kids will become better caretakers, and learn responsibility. But mostly, growing up
becomes fun with a dog.
Learning activity 1.4

Draft a rough copy of your opinion essay about whether your family should buy a car or a
dog. Remember, for this learning activity, we are focusing on the first three steps of the
writing process:

 Brainstorming
 Organizing ideas
 Writing a draft

Dog:

 Require more attention

 More cuddly
 Improves general health and wellbeing
 Need more time
 More expensive
 Protection more than cat
 Easy to train
 Loyal
 Exercise friend

Cat:

 More independent
 Improves general health and wellbeing
 Don’t take up much space
 Are more affordable are perfectly content indoor
 Are quieter
 Less work than puppies
 Cats are not as noisy

Owning a pet can help reduce stress. Spending time with your pet can trigger an increased level of
oxytocin. It can also increase your overall mood but choosing between getting a cat or dog can be
a tough decision.
Dogs require more attention while cats are more independent. However, if you like to have a cuddle
with your furry friend, then perhaps a dog is the right choice for you. Dogs are easier to train. Proud
cats do whatever they want to. There is no easy way to know how a cat will behave. Cats think
humans are the pets and not vice versa. A dog's pack mentality makes him ready to follow a leader
and makes him generally more obedient by nature.

It's true that cost should be considered when choosing to adopt a pet. Dogs often tend to be more
expensive to care for than a cat between food, toys, training classes, daycare, and vet bills. Because
cats are independent by nature they have learned to care for themselves and generally only rely on
their human for food. Even play stimulation can be as simple and cost effective as a flashlight or a
feather tied to a stick.

In conclusion, each species has its pros and cons, and both are special in their own ways. cats and
dogs are not only different species, but they're individuals within each of their species and some of
these generalities might not apply to individual pets.

Learning Activity 2.2 Logbook

 If the format looks like news, does that make it news? I would say yes, in order to
capture reader’s attention to any important information, author must follow specific format.

 Provide an example of something you read or watched that you thought was news,
but wasn’t. I can not think of anything
 Where do you get your news? CBC and BBC, also I listen to radio
 If you were a reporter, what types of events would you enjoy writing about? News
about Galaxy, Nasa event and new technologies

Learning Activity 2.2 Portfolio

After reading this section, write down what you think Mr. Harrower’s main ideas are
concerning what constitutes “news”.

His point about news and how attractive it can become to readers is all editor’s skills. Writer or
reporter will only do research and write the new, but editor has to make it interesting.

Living in Toronto

Just like everyone else, I want to build my life and future in a city I love and it would be the city of
Toronto in Canada. I have travelled to many countries and many cities but among all of them, I feel
Toronto is where I can become a successful person.

Firstly, after I finish my university, I would like to work in a multinational company as a Data Analyst
and there are many international companies where I can easily find a job with good salary. In
addition, I just love winter and Toronto has long and cold winter. In addition, spring and summer time
is lovely in Toronto.

Actually, this grand city has virtually everything you could want or need within a small radius.
Toronto hosts world-class events including the Toronto International Film Festival and Toronto Jazz
Festival. It has several parks, beaches, running trails and bike paths[1].

I would like to get small condo in downtown Toronto where I would like to live with my family, be
close to university and hopefully find my dream job. Since, Toronto is the place that offers everything
I dream of that’s why it is the city where I would like to live in future.

 How often should you update your resume with new information? Whenever
you learn something new, get a new certificate, develop new skills, change is
responsibilities, gained more experience
 Why should you ensure that someone proofreads your resume and cover
letter? Before you send or upload a resume to apply for a job, it's important to
proofread it so it's perfect. Your resume and its accompanying cover letter both
represent the professionalism that you would bring to the position you’re applying
for. Thus, even simple mistakes like a typo or grammatical error can cost you a
job interview.
 Why is it important to be honest in your resume and cover letter? if you're not
honest, it's going to be an issue for potential employers. Even if you are honest,
it's important to be clear and accurate about your work history and
achievements and to remember what you've put down on your application
materials. If you're caught lying before you're hired, you won't get a job offer. If
the organization discovers you lied after you've been put on the payroll, you can
be fired. Lying on your resume can also impact your future employment.
 What do you think is the most difficult part of creating a resume and cover
letter? They need to be short. People have difficulty summarizing 10- to 20-year
careers in a few cogent sentences.
 Who could help you with it? There are places that offer professional resume
writing services.

Learning Activity 4.1 Logbook

Which of the reading strategies that you reviewed and learned about in this learning
activity did you find interesting? Explain.
We have reviewed and learned the "Monitoring comprehension” reading strategy. It is the
most important reading strategies because:
Students who are good at tracking their comprehension of what they read or do not read
and when they understand.
They used some strategies to "fix" issues in their understanding as the issue occurs.
However, research exhibit the instructions, even in the early evaluations; can help students
get better at observing their understanding.
Following instructions guide students:
 Be aware of what they don't understand.
 Identify what they understand.
 Incomprehension used suitable strategies for solved problem

Which of the reading strategies have you used a lot? Who taught you this strategy?
Question answer strategies were used a lot because it’s a more effective strategy:
 Students properly concentrate on what they need to realize.
 They support the students to think more effectively while reading.
 They motivate students to read completely
 Motivate the students to develop their understanding
 What they known or what they already understand, they also help the students for
reviewing content.
Four dissimilar categories of questions/answers are:
 Search and think
 On your own
 You and author
 Right there

Which strategy do you think you will use more often from now on? Explain.

We will use the "Questioning strategy” more often from now on because:
 Guide the students answer in his/her question
 Questioning the answer by myself
 To the class easily direct question
 Provide sources to the students to find out answers
 After class question/answer discussion period

215 First Nations children found buried at former B.C. residential school

By Milad Sangari

In May 2021, remains of 215 indigoes children were found berried at the site, near the city of
Kamloops, in B.C.'s southern Interior (Dickson/CBC)
Adolphus Egerton Ryerson was a Canadian educator who created Canadian Indian residential school
system. From 1890 to 1978, native children age 4-25 years were forcibly taken to Kamloops Indian
Residential School and prohibited from seeing their families, practicing their language, religion,
culture, and traditions in order to assimilate into the dominant Canadian culture.
It was reported that many children went to the school and never returned. These children’s death
are undocumented. There may be reasons such as physical and sexual abuse, so that might be the
reason why they would not record the deaths properly and those they were not treated with dignity
and respect because that was the whole purpose of the residential school. Their cause of death is
still under investigation.
The statue of Egerton Ryerson that stood outside the university that bears his name was toppled at
a protest over this discovery of indigenous children at a school and will not be restored or replaced.
