    Lab 11: Validation of Mesh Analysis Method
    Pre-Lab Task
    Students should solve the circuit shown in figure 8.1 using mesh analysis and calculate all the
    mesh currents. The values of currents through and voltages across all the resistances should also
    be calculated.

    • What is the difference between mesh and loop?

    Answer:

    Difference between mesh and loop:

    A loop is a closed path in a circuit where two nodes are not traversed
    twice except the initial point, which is also the final one.

    A mesh is a closed path in a circuit with no other paths inside it. In other
    words, a loop with no other loops inside it

    • What is super mesh? Does the circuit in figure 8.1 contain any super mesh?
    Answer:

    Super Mesh: A supermesh results when two meshes have a (dependent or


    independent) current source in common.

    In figure 8.1 there is no super Mesh because there is no (dependent or


    independent) current source is common in any two meshes.

    Critical Analysis / Conclusion


    This(Mesh analysis) method is a very powerful tool which may be used in circuit
    analysis. It is a widely used method in case of a small network, containing small
    number of meshes. It is so because the method is simple, easy to understand and
    gives quick results if the network is small.But it has some disadvantages. We can
    use this method only when the circuit is planar, otherwise the method is not
    useful. If the network is large then the number of meshes will be large, hence, the
    total number of equations will be more so it becomes inconvenient to use in that
    case.
