The purpose of this method statement is to identify the construction method, arrangement of
resources, plant and equipment, quality control and HSE measures for Building Raft foundation
reinforcement, formwork & concrete work as per client specifications.

2. Scope:
The method statement covers the procedure for fixing reinforcement bars, shuttering formworks
and placing of concrete for basement raft foundation for the construction of new 132/22 KV
YASII Substation and shall be confirming to the applicable standards and specification.

A. Project Manager:

 An authorized representative of civil contractor and relevant authorities to


manage the project.
 It is overall responsibility of the PM to organize resources to perform
construction activities as per the project specification, In-compliance with
quality, schedule and HSE requirements.

B. Site Engineer:

 Overall responsible for the excavation of the work. Ensure that all the work
being excavated meeting the project specification, HSE, QA/QC requirements.
 Responsible for the allotment and supervision of every individual group.
 Conduct the toolbox talk, guide, and monitor the work force and report the
Project Manager in regular basis.
 Also ensure that the necessary permits have been taken for all the activities.

C. QA/QC Engineer:

 Overall responsible for the quality control of work at site.


 Responsible for the project quality records and documents.
 Coordination with main-contractor and client engineer.
 Coordination with the third-party laboratory for testing as required.

D. HSE Officer:

 Overall responsible for the safety related aspects of work at site.


 Ensure all the activities are undertaken and earth work is in a safe manner as
per HSE plan.
 Ensure Necessary permits to be obtain from Internal & other Authorities.
 Ensuring all necessary documents and trainings shall be conducted before any
work commencement.

7. Construction Methodology:

I. Work permit & Preparation:

 All necessary work permit shall be obtained from ADM and relevant authorities in
coordination with KEC International limited.
 Get the inspection and approvals from ADWEA & TRANSCO other related
authorities in coordination with M/s KEC International Limited.
 Primary benchmark and control station shall be approved by authorities.
 Surveyor shall mark the location of foundation as per approved RFC drawing using
calibrated survey equipment.

II. Formwork (Dead Shutter)

 Marking the formwork location by surveyor


 Arranging the solid block 200mm thick. The block shall be socked in the water
prior to use.
 Placing the block on the location with sand cement mortar ratio of 1:3 up to
the required height.
 All the mortar joint should be properly filled and traveled in level and the
derbies to be cleaned.
 Curing has to be conducted minimum for three days

 After the completion of dead shutter necessary chamfers has to provide with
sand and cement mortar on al vertical and horizontal corners as per the water
proofing system requirement.
 The block works shall be finished with approved coal tar epoxy coating and the
water proofing membrane shall be extended on the block wall.

III. Reinforcement works:

 Completion of water proofing system along with protection screed prior to start
steel reinforcement works.
 The surveyor will undertake setting out of foundation to ensure that the overall
Building Layout/ setting out & sections to carry out as per TRANSCO approved
RFC/BBS. When the Reinforcement of Raft foundation is fixed, the surveyor will
check coordinates to ensure that the wall and column in the correct location and
any discrepancies will be directly rectified before the inspection of the Engineer.

i. Storage:

 Reinforcement steel shall be free from loose seals dirt, grease, organic matters
etc. Storage of the steel reinforcement shall over a properly raised platform to
avoid prevent any distortion.
 Steel of different diameters shall be segregated and labeled / marked clearly for
identification. Steel shall be protected from weather by covering with a polythene
sheet.

ii. Cutting & Bending:

 Bar bending and cutting shall be done in accordance with the Bar Bending
schedule shop drawing in the approved factory, cutting and processing of bars
shall be in accordance with BS 4466 or BS EN ISO 3766
 Reinforcement shall be as per approval BBS schedule

iii. Fixing in position:

 Reinforcement shall be secured in position using binding wire of 20G. Adequate


concrete cover shall be maintained by means of approved concrete cover blocks
secured to the reinforcement.
 Top steel mesh shall be firmly supported by links or steel chairs placed in 1000mm
spacing.
 Ease of inserting vibrators for proper compaction of wet concrete at all the points
must be ensured while fixing the rebar. Water bars shall be fixed horizontally

(External Face of raft) and vertically at all the construction joint location shall be
followed as per approved drawing and tied rigid to required stiffness.
 Reinforcement Bars after tying shall be thoroughly cleaned & all Waste materials
removed including loose mill scale, grease, paper tags trapped, tying wires, nails
under the reinforcement.
 No damage to form lining and no disturbance / damage to adjacent work shall be
caused.
 Position of all sleeves and openings for Drainage service Pipes to be marked and
reinforcements shall be provided as per the approved RFC drawing.
 Splicing of reinforcement bars shall be as per specifications and as per drawing.
 Laps shall be staggered it should be provided as per drawing.
 Inserts and embedment’s related to drainage trenches shall be fixed in position as
per the approved drawing (If any. For drainage gratings edge angle shall be fixed
while casting screed on raft)

IV. Prior Checking

 Necessary checks for reinforcement & inserts as per TRANSCO ITP shall be
conducted.
 Ensure all reinforcement, inserts & embedment’s and water bars are tied in
position as per drawing before erection of forms.
 Ensure cover blocks are tied tightly and in position.
 Chamfers (25mm*25mm) shall be provided (If Required) on all external exposed
corners of concrete members as per approved drawing and specifications i
 Ensure all the inserts, cutouts, pipes, and sleeves are provided and concealed
service line works are completed.
 Electrical & Mechanical clearance shall be obtained before pouring the concrete
 Approved PVC Water stop (250MM) shall be placed in the External face of raft and
on touched with block wall (Refer attached sketch.01)
 Alignment and plumb of the form work shall be checked and must ensure prior to
start EDF/TRANSCO/Authority inspection.

V. Casting of Raft Foundation:

 Concrete placement shall proceed only with the approval of pre-pour inspection
request by the EDF/TRANSCO.
 Shuttering shall be provided with concrete top level marked. As per drawing.
 Concrete delivered to site shall be as per the approved design mix and checked for
slump and the temperature. Slump & temperature of concrete shall be recorded
for every truck on arrival at the check point.
 Concrete shall be compacted immediately after placement with needle vibrator
(Total Qty. Expected to pour 1300 M3. Over the area of approx..1900sqm)

 Concrete shall not be allowed to free fall beyond 1.5m in height, and shall be
poured in layers not more than 300 mm
 Sequence for pouring of concrete shall be planned in such a manner, as to have
minimum no of repositioning of concrete pump, and without any blockage of the
movement of transit mixers.
 Adequate number of vibrators, hessian cloth, and polythene sheets including
standby to be ensured.
 Necessary test cubes shall be taken for quality check. The compressive strength
test shall be carried out after seven 7 days for the first three cubes of the set, and
after 28 days for the second set of three cubes. The last three cubes of each set
may be tested in case of failure of a cube.
 Tests on hardened concrete to determine strength and other durability tests shall
include.
Compressive strength tests (after 7 days, 28 days), rapid test for chloride, rapid
test for sulphates, water absorption testing, water penetration, chloride
permeability testing and chemical analysis are to be carried out.
 Post pour checks for shuttering shall be done, lines and levels to be ensured as per
drawing.
 After the completion of pouring spillage and other wastes shall be removed from
work and the whole area.
 Immediacy after completion of pouring & leveling, polythene sheet must be
layered and water to be sprinkled.
 Subsequently complete raft surface to be covered with hessian cloth and water to
be sprinkled and maintained minimum for seven days.

8. Inspection & Testing:

 After the Completion of Reinforcement works, the inspection request will be raised 24hrs
prior to the Inspection to the EDF/TRANSCO.
 After the Completion of Shuttering the inspection request will be raised 24hrs prior to the
Inspection to the EDF/TRANSCO.
 After obtaining the approval from consultant/TRANSCO. The concrete will be placed.

9. Waste Management & Housekeeping:

 All waste shall be kept and disposed safely.


 All waste shall be removed each day and area shall be handed over for operations.

10.Working During Covid-19 Virus Epidemic:

 Use of appropriate PPE such as mask, hand gloves, full body PPE kit, face shield. Etc.
 All people must maintain social distancing.
 Wash hand every 2- or 3-hour interval with soap or hand wash.
 Don’t put hand in to mouth and don’t touch eyes and nose with dirty or unhygienic hand.
 Workplace, toilet, common places and transport media must be sanitized on regular
basis.
 Temperature monitoring to be conducted on regular basis.

11.Documentation:

 Toolbox talk
 All inspection and testing in accordance with approved ITP from TRANSCO.
 Pour card shall be prepared and kept for future references.
 Cubes shall be tested for 7 days & 28 days strength at approved laboratory and reports
shall be submitted to EDF/TRANSCO.
