General description
WinSCI is an interface used to communicate with Scanreco radio remote control systems. Version 4
supports all generations of control systems from generation 1 (G1) to generation 5 (G5). System
settings are changed by sending commands to the unit through an RS-232 serial port.
Modern computers and laptops do normally not have a RS-232 serial port available. An USB-RS232
adapter is therefore required.

WinSCI works with USB-RS232 adapter based on both "Prolific" and "FTDI" chipsets.

We have experienced the use of the “DIGITUS 2.0” USB-RS232 adapter.

You can search on the web typing “USB adapter Digitus 2.0” to buy it directly.

NOTE: Using a release older than 4.7 of WinSCI, along with an USB-RS232 adapter based on the
Prolific chipset, could cause Windows to crash (blue screen) and consequently the loss of all
unsaved data in running programs.
The old versions of WinSCI worked only with USB-RS232 adapter based on the FTDI chipset.

Be sure to download the latest version of WinSCI (ask to the technical department the link to download
it).

Hardware and software requirement

You need to have the following to get started:
 Personal Computer or laptop with Windows installed.
 RS232 port or a USB-RS232 adapter.
 Cable between the RS232 port and the Scanreco Central Unit. For G2B-G3-G4-G2B-SCP and G5
CAN systems, the part number of the cable is PCASG25S.
 Be sure to have the latest version of driver for the USB-RS232 adapter installed.

Getting Started
Be sure the driver of the USB-RS232 adapter has been previously installed on the computer.

First, connect the hardware:

- Insert the USB-RS232 adapter into the computer.
- Connect the programming cable between the adapter and the Scanreco Central Unit.
- Then, turn the Central Unit on by applying power supply and selecting REMOTE.
.
When WinSCI 4 starts, the following screen appears:

At the first WinSCI running, please make sure to select the right COM port that corresponds to the USB-
RS232 adapter.

If a single COM port is available, it is selected automatically.

If multiple COM ports are available, select from the dropdown menu the one you are connected to.

The button aside refreshes the COM port list.

Establish communication
 Select protocol based on the remote control you have to connect to the PC

 WinSCI will now connect with the Central unit

 You can see when connected “COM8 (2400)” in the status bar.

You can now use the command windows, load SCI file, upload/download application file, read errors or
update the firmware.
Protocol
Selecting the right protocol, allows to the WinSCI program to use the proper setting of the COM port and
to load the proper database of commands. This way the software can recognize the correct or wrong
commands and shows a hint with the syntax description of the command when the cursor is placed on
the command line.

Upload application
If settings are made to the system using the online programming mode and you may want to save the
settings to an application file for later use, with the "Upload" command, the data can be stored on the
computer.
There is the possibility to select which catalog you need to upload and the configuration file command is
divided in different catalogs: this depends on the meaning of the command and his functionality.
We recommend to upload the complete configuration because it is possible that some system behaviors
include multiple command configurations located in different catalogs.
Below the possible catalogs that can be uploaded:

All parameters (List 0) include all the catalogs.

All parameters in COM (communication parameters)
All parameters in RX (UC parameters)
All parameters in TX (PCU parameters)
All parameters in SET1 (SET1 parameters)
All parameters in SET2 (SET2 parameters)
All parameters in SET3 (SET3 parameters)

The upload procedure will open a new window and the upload file will be loaded inside as a new txt file

At the end of the upload, the uploading time will be shown.

When the upload is completed, you can save the file with the "Save" button.

Include ALL_P
With the "Include reset" button close to the "Download" button, it’s possible to specify to include the
command ALL_P (restores the unit to factory default) into the upload list, this must be used only if the all
parameters (list 0) are selected.

The "Include reset" button must be selected before doing the Upload selection.

Including the ALL_P command in the list means that before new data is downloaded all the controls in
the system are reset to the factory configuration.

Editing applications
WinSCI 4 has a text editor built inside, so text files can be edited directly.
Make sure you have the right protocol selected and then open an application file.
Each command is identified from a database and colored to make the application more readable.
Comment lines begin with * and are italic blue.

A small vertical yellow line indicates the line has been edited after a save.

Use the "Save" button to save the file.

A green line indicates that a previously yellow line has been saved.

From the File menu it’s possible to use “Save as” to specify a different name for the file.

Using Script files G2B

To easily edit settings for end users, the use of script files is possible.
Script files generate a graphical user-friendly interface.
Script files have .SCI or .SCI4 as file extension and are opened with the "Open" button.
To open the Script file, select "Open"

Then select the Script file you need to open:

For G2B systems we suggest to ask us this two file versions:

"G2B_DNF_FW0421_STD_2017.SCI" is the script file for Danfoss systems.

"G2B_PWM_FW0421_STD_2017.SCI" is the script file for PWM systems.

If you do not have this two files, SCI files for standard systems and the most common settings are
located in the "My documents" folder after installation: these are generic Script files and may not match
with the customer needs.

When a script file is opened, a menu on the left side of the window appears.

G2B Script file differences between PWM and Danfoss versions

Some descriptions on the Script file are different with respect to the PWM version.
Below listed the differences:

PWM setting is not present and replaced by SINGLE SUPPLY instead

PWM SETTING SINGLE SUPPLY

SINGLE SUPPLY
SS single supply
Controls the Danfoss module supply output.
To enable that function, set the Function
Activation with the check box, allowing the
module feed to be deactivated or not:
= Danfoss module is constantly supplied
when system is operational
= Danfoss module supply is only active
when the channel is commanded (with 0,5s of
deactivation delay).
Our standard file has the single supply
function active only when the analogue output
is active

SET1 START CURRENT SET1 START MOVEMENT

The description of the Set’s setting has changed because the standard Danfoss do not use the PWM
characteristic description for the movement’s changes.
