General description
WinSCI is an interface used to communicate with Scanreco radio remote control systems. Version 4
supports all generations of control systems from generation 1 (G1) to generation 5 (G5). System
settings are changed by sending commands to the unit through an RS-232 serial port.
Modern computers and laptops do normally not have a RS-232 serial port available. An USB-RS232
adapter is therefore required.
WinSCI works with USB-RS232 adapter based on both "Prolific" and "FTDI" chipsets.
NOTE: Using a release older than 4.7 of WinSCI, along with an USB-RS232 adapter based on the
Prolific chipset, could cause Windows to crash (blue screen) and consequently the loss of all
unsaved data in running programs.
The old versions of WinSCI worked only with USB-RS232 adapter based on the FTDI chipset.
Be sure to download the latest version of WinSCI (ask to the technical department the link to download
it).

Establish communication
Select protocol based on the remote control you have to connect to the PC
You can now use the command windows, load SCI file, upload/download application file, read errors or
update the firmware.
Protocol
Selecting the right protocol, allows to the WinSCI program to use the proper setting of the COM port and
to load the proper database of commands. This way the software can recognize the correct or wrong
commands and shows a hint with the syntax description of the command when the cursor is placed on
the command line.

In case of error
In case of ERROR, at the end of the download, WinSCI shows the below indications:
The download has not been successfully and the code shall be fixed.
Please contact us for support.
The software has been downloaded successfully but some commands contained in the software have
not been recognized from the selected WinSCI protocol.
A new download is not necessary only if the replies match with the command sent.
In case the protocol is correct and the inconvenient remains, the data base of the commands must be
updated.
Please contact the head office for support.

Upload application
If settings are made to the system using the online programming mode and you may want to save the
settings to an application file for later use, with the "Upload" command, the data can be stored on the
computer.
There is the possibility to select which catalog you need to upload and the configuration file command is
divided in different catalogs: this depends on the meaning of the command and his functionality.
We recommend to upload the complete configuration because it is possible that some system behaviors
include multiple command configurations located in different catalogs.
Below the possible catalogs that can be uploaded:
The upload procedure will open a new window and the upload file will be loaded inside as a new txt file
When the upload is completed, you can save the file with the "Save" button.

Include ALL_P
With the "Include reset" button close to the "Download" button, it’s possible to specify to include the
command ALL_P (restores the unit to factory default) into the upload list, this must be used only if the all
parameters (list 0) are selected.
The "Include reset" button must be selected before doing the Upload selection.
Including the ALL_P command in the list means that before new data is downloaded all the controls in
the system are reset to the factory configuration.

Editing applications
WinSCI 4 has a text editor built inside, so text files can be edited directly.
Make sure you have the right protocol selected and then open an application file.
Each command is identified from a database and colored to make the application more readable.
Comment lines begin with * and are italic blue.
A small vertical yellow line indicates the line has been edited after a save.
A green line indicates that a previously yellow line has been saved.
From the File menu it’s possible to use “Save as” to specify a different name for the file.

If you do not have this two files, SCI files for standard systems and the most common settings are
located in the "My documents" folder after installation: these are generic Script files and may not match
with the customer needs.
When a script file is opened, a menu on the left side of the window appears.

SINGLE SUPPLY
SS single supply
Controls the Danfoss module supply output.
To enable that function, set the Function
Activation with the check box, allowing the
module feed to be deactivated or not:
= Danfoss module is constantly supplied
when system is operational
= Danfoss module supply is only active
when the channel is commanded (with 0,5s of
deactivation delay).
Our standard file has the single supply
function active only when the analogue output
is active
The description of the Set’s setting has changed because the standard Danfoss do not use the PWM
characteristic description for the movement’s changes.
