1.02 The contents of this manual are authorised for issue by the Chief
Administration Operating Officer, Maersk Drilling Copenhagen, on behalf of the
CEO of Maersk Drilling.
The manual is issued as a controlled or uncontrolled publication to
Maersk Drilling staff involved with the operation of this MODU.
Any issue to external staff must be authorised by the Chief Operating
Officer, Maersk Drilling Copenhagen.
Language The English version prevails if conflicts are found between different
language versions.
Controlled Publication This means that the manual is identified by a distinct number on a
Distribution List that includes information about the:
Person (including contact details) who is the holder of the copy
with the distinct number
Manual’s Edition number and issue date
Language version
Number of Volumes of the manual
Revision transmittals, issued to the manual
Status of Acknowledgements of Receipts of revision transmittals.
Uncontrolled Publication This means that the contents of the manual are current on the date it
is issued, but the manual will not be registered on the revision
distribution list. Hence the manual will not be kept up to date.
1.03 Definitions in this manual are in accordance with the ISO 8402
Definitions standard. Those definitions, which are not included in that standard,
are in accordance with the terms of ISO 9004 or the Company’s own
definitions.
Asset Manager He is in charge of the overall management for a group of rigs and
based in Copenhagen, He reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
Barge Engineer Person, who is responsible for the marine and lifting operations
onboard the MODU. Acts as Unit Security Officer.
Alternative name: Stability Officer, Assisting OIM.
Maintenance Supervisor Person, who is responsible for the maintenance of the MODU’s
equipment.
Alternative name: Rig Engineer, Chief Engineer
MODU For the purposes of this manual the drilling unit in question will be
referred to as the MODU (Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit).
Alternative name: Rig, Platform, Vessel, Drilling Unit.
Offshore Installation The person, who is legally in charge and responsible for safety when
Manager (OIM) the offshore unit is in Operating Mode and installed on the designa-
ted location.
The OIM's authority and responsibility will be signed over to the
attending Towmaster when the unit goes into Transit Mode.
Alternative name: Person in Charge, Platform Manager.
Operator The party (Company) that employs the MODU to carry out
operations under the consent of the Continental Shelf Authority with
jurisdiction over the operating area.
(The Operator is usually Maersk Drillings Client)
Risk The probability that physical harm to persons will be suffered or that
damage to property or negative effects on the environment will occur
as a consequence of exposure to a hazard.
Senior Toolpusher The supervisor of the drilling department on the MODU, who is
responsible to the Person in Charge for the day-to-day operations on
the MODU and for carrying out the Operator’s well programme as
directed by the Operator’s representative.

Crown A frame.
A Check railing and guards.
B Check gate and latter.
C Check that the light is mounted correctly and check that safety
wires have been connected. Check that all lights are working.
Report any findings to the Electrician.
Fast-line Sheaves.
A Check that mounting bolts have been secured. Check that lock
wires have not been damaged. Check that the wires are installed
correctly. This means, it should not be possible to loosen the bolt
at all without breaking the locking wire.
B Check that grease lines and nipples are in good condition and
check that valves are functioning.
Crown Block.
A Check that mounting bolts have been secured. Check that lock
wires have not been damaged. Check that the wires are installed
correctly. This means, it should not be possible to loosen the bolt
at all without breaking the locking wire
B Check crown sheaves line guards and that the bolts in the line
guards have been secured.
C Check that grease nipples are in good condition and check that
valves are functioning.
D Check conditions of sheaves.
E Check for any abnormal noise or vibrations. Check if any burn
smell. Report any findings!
F Remove excessive tar.
Note: Removing excessive tar from the sheave cluster is to be
done only when the block is stationary, a work permit has
been issued, the Draw works have been isolated, and the
emergency brake has been activated.
Air lines.
A Check condition of air lines.
B Check control valves.
Crown compensator.
A Check that grease nipples are in good condition and check that
valves are functioning.
B Check conditions of compensator.
Hang of wire.
A Check condition of the shackles, and their fastenings.
B Check the safety pin.
Grating.
A Check condition of the grating under crown.
B Check condition of the crown sheaves.
Counterweights.
A Check condition of counterweight enclosure.
B Inspect top of beams for loose items.
Eagle Light.
A Check condition of shackles.
B Check the cylinder fastening pin and safety pin.
C Check condition of guides.
Air winch.
A Check condition of racking winch.
B Check mounting bolts.
C Check air hose and connection.
D Check the remote control.
Vent Pipe.
A Check mounting of vent pipe.
B Check derrick structure mounting bolts.
Finger board.
A Check fingers.
B Check air lines for leaks.
Cement hoses.
A Check condition and fastening of hoses.
Travelling block.
A Grease.
B Check wear on drill line and travelling block line guard.
C Check condition of cam followers.
D Check fastenings and that bolts have been secured and are not
loose.
Derrick foundation
A Check derrick foundation bolts.
Stabbing platform
A Check mounting bolts
B Check condition of guards, rails, and platform
C Check safety belt and wire.
