PIPING INSULATION

5.15.1 GENERAL

(a) Work Included

1. Comply with General Requirements and all documents referred to therein.

2. Provide all labour, materials, products, equipment and services to supply and install thermal

insulation, vapour barriers and finishes for mechanical works as indicated on the Drawings

and specified in this Section of the Specification.

(b) Submittals

1. Submit samples and specification sheets of all types of insulation materials specified in this

Section of the Specification.

5.15.2 PRODUCTS

(c) Materials -General

All insulation shall be carried out by one firm specialising in insulation work.

1. Provide insulation and covers in strict accordance with authorities governing combustibility

and fireproofing of materials and in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.

2. Provide non-combustible insulation, jackets and finishes fire rated as follows:

3. Spread of flame: Class 1 (BS 476 Part 7, 1987) Ignitability: Class P (BS 476 Part 5, 1979)

Fire Propagation: Class O (BS 476 Part 6, 1989)

4. Attain a complete and continuous vapour barrier over insulation applied to cold and dual

temperature piping, sheet metal and equipment. Insulation material shall incorporate a

factory applied laminated Kraft paper / reinforced aluminium foil flame resistant vapour

barrier jacket. Apply to piping, fittings, valves and inline components, sheet metal and

fittings and equipment. Seal longitudinal and circumferential laps with adhesive suitable for

the application and as per requirements of section 15008 or approved equivalent. If vapour

barrier jacket is not lapped, seal joints with self-adhering 100mm (4 in) wide plain

aluminium foil tape, or adhere 100mm (4 in) wide aluminium foil tape with adhesive suitable

for the application and as per requirements of section 15008 or approved equivalent.

Jacketing with self-adhesive laps and self-adhesive vapour barrier tape will be an acceptable

alternative closure system.

5. For cold and dual temperature piping, sheet metal and equipment cover the above jacket with

one coat of sealant as per requirements of section 15008 or approved equivalent. Embed
