and jacking method, or chain block.
7.6.5 Equipment should be lifted slowly, and weight and stability should be checked during
the operation.
7.6.6 Once lifting gears, tag lines and rigging are intact, equipment should be hoisted up
slowly and swung to the installation location slowly, by slewing crane. Abrupt
movement should be avoided.
7.6.7 When the equipment is hoisted over foundation, signal should be given to operator to
hoist down the equipment slowly with caution. No one should place hand or body parts
below the equipment. Tag lines should be used to control the equipment in hanging
condition.
7.6.8 In case of Anchor Box type, the anchor bolts should be set to the legs of the equipment
after lowered equipment becomes stable.

mm/m on mounting pads for high-speed gear box.
b) The elevation of mounting pads belonging to the same piece of equipment should be
in the same plane within +/-0.1 mm for each meter of distance between the centres of
the pads. This should be checked with a calibrated Engineer's spirit level (1 division =
0.02mm/m)
7.7.2 Levelling spindles shall be used for levelling of base plates, if provided.
7.7.3 Shim also can be used to adjust for levelling and adjusting the elevation of equipment.
7.7.4 After equipment skid levelling, Anchor pocket grouting shall be carried out. Cement
based non-shrink grout should be used to fill up the anchor pockets. Subsequent curing
should Be done by placing wet rags on the poured grout and keep moist until cured.
Curing Period should be according to grouting manufacturer's specification.
7.8 PRELIMINARY SHAFT ALIGNMENT
7.8.1 Preliminary shaft alignment shall be carried after curing of anchor pocket grouting.

- The Rim and Face method with 2 axial dial indicators and 1 radial dial indicator.
a) The Rim and Face method may be used only in cases where the measuring diameter
for the face reading is equal to or a larger than half the distance between the shafts
ends to reliable shaft alignment readings.
b) As for high speed and sensitive equipment, alignment shall be carried out by the

a) Rim and Face run-out shall be inspected and checked, within tolerance specified by
the Vendor.
b) Feeler gauge, snap gauge can be used if the gap of coupling is small. Use micrometer
or dial gauge for a large gap.
c) If only one of the two shafts is to be rotated, install dial gauge on the rotating side.
d) Soft foot check should be made on each equipment foot. Maximum permissible value
is 0.05mm at each soft foot.
