BOOK TITLE: The Obstacle in Our Path GRADE LEVEL: 7
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. Analyze the story as a mirror to the real-life situation of people with diverse
background.
b. Evaluate and make judgements about the plot of the story; and
c. Construct a reflective essay about the story and compare it to one’s experiences.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic/Title of the Book: The Obstacle in Our Path

Materials: Projector, Laptop, Speakers. Chalk, Blackboard, Visual Aids
III. PROCEDURE
A. Pre-Reading:
1. Before reading, the teacher will introduce the story by asking the
following questions to the students:
• What type of text is presented?
• What does the title tell you?
• What characters do you think might be in the story?
• Did you experience obstacles in your life? Do you think the story can
be a reflection of your experiences?
• What do you think is the author’s purpose of writing the story?
2. Find the Matching Word
Instructions: The teacher will call the students randomly to answer the
matching type vocabulary activity pasted in the board. The students will
match the words to its corresponding meaning.

B. During Reading: The students will be tasked to read the story aloud, they are
encouraged to annotate the text they are reading and answer the following
questions.

1. How do you feel about the story and the characters?


2. Does the book make sense to you?
3. What do you think will happen next in the story?
C. Post -Reading: After reading the text the students will be called randomly to
answer questions expressing their opinions and ideas about the story.
1. What does the merchants’ ignorance of moving the boulder imply?
2. What does the peasant pushing the boulder imply?
3. Why did the King place a boulder to the roadway and reward those
who move it?
4. What is/are the moral value/s of the story?
IV. EVALUATION:
In order to evaluate the students’ knowledge regarding the topic. They will be task
to answer four (4) worksheets in the next page.
Worksheet A: Picture-Cued Word Matching: A type of perceptive test wherein the
students will connect the pictures in the 1st column to the second column.
Worksheet B: Subjective Assessment: The students will be given questions from the
story in which they will answer briefly. Their own opinions and interpretations about the
story will be highlighted in this assessment.
Worksheet C: Multiple Choice: The students will answer ten (10) multiple choice
questions that are extracted from the story to assess their retention.
Worksheet D: Reflective Essay: The students will write a reflective essay regarding
the story “The Obstacles in Our Path” and relate it to their own experiences. Rubric is
provided for guidance.
V. ASSIGNMENT:
Instruction: In their home, the students will be tasked to read the story of The Tale of
Two Pebbles. After reading the students will answer the questions below and then
make a table of the sequence of the scenarios in the story.
1. What qualities of the girl that helped her saved her father?
2. Do you think what the girl did is right?
3. If you were the girl, what would you have done?
4. What is/are the moral lesson/s of the story?
VI. CLOSURE:
Well-done! I hope you have learned a lot from this story that you will use in whatever
circumstances in your life. Share this story and its moral values to your younger siblings
and friends.
