How to process level data

Version 1.0
Introduction
This is a step-by-step tutorial in which you learn how to import level raw data, adjust a level line and
finally print a report.

Six level lines were measured during a measurement campaign. These lines form a level line network.
In this tutorial, we shall show how to adjust individual level lines, although the data can be also used
for a level network adjustment.

The functionality discussed in this guide requires the Levelling license.

The data from the following folders will be used in this tutorial:
· Data\ contains level lines and the height control points.

1. Import data

1.1 Start Infinity and create a new project. To

import the data, select Import from the
Home ribbon bar.

1.2 To import the data using the default

settings, highlight the file “Level-
Lines.GSI” from the data directory in the
Import dialog and select Import.

Level data can be imported either

from GSI, LEV, XML or HeXML
files.
Data imported from HeXML can
be also viewed in the graphical
view as position information is
also included in these files.
1.3 To view the imported level lines, switch to
the Level tab of the data Inspector.

Basic information for each level

line is presented here and in the
Property Grid.
A graph is also available, that
helps the user visualise a rough
“profile” of the level line.
If another level line is highlighted,
the graph updates automatically.

1.4 To import the additional control points,
import the file “Height_Control_Points.txt”
from the same directory.

You may have to create an ASCII

import template first, in order to
import the control points
correctly. In this case, the
template should be in the
following format: Point Id,
Easting,Northing,Ortho.Height.
The fields should be separated by
commas.

2. Adjust a level line

2.1 A simple way to adjust an individual level

line is to select the edit button next to
the level line. In this example, select “Line
006”.

2.2 The level line wizard appears. To input

additional information on Expansion
Coefficient, Actual and Calibration
Temperature, activate the Apply Staff
Corrections option.

All the settings that are available

for the level line adjustment can
be found in the first page of the
wizard.
Two adjustment methods are
available: Equally or By
Distance.
Various tolerance options are
available, that cover all aspects of
a level line adjustment.
For the adjustment of each
individual level line different
settings can be defined. If,
however, it is required that the
same settings should be used for

adjusting all level lines, this can
be configured from File Info &
Settings Data
Processing Level.
2.3 During the measurement campaign the
GTL4M barcode staff was used. For this
staff, input the following values (the rest
of the parameters are left as per default):

· Expansion Coefficient:
o
15ppm/ C.
o
· Calibration Temperature: 25 C
o
· (Actual) Temperature: 30 C.

After you type in these values, select

Next.

2.4 To source the start of the level line (Point

Id: LEV2) to the control point height, use
the edit button next to the Point Id.

2.5 Select the control point LEV2 from the list

that pops up and then select OK.

· The Ortho. Height of point LEV2

updates from 405.4473m to
405.4594m.

2.6 To source the end of the level line to the
control point, scroll to the end of the level
line and repeat the same procedure that
was described in the previous step for
point CP05.

· The Height of point CP05 updates

from 404.7070m to 404.7183m.
· The Misclosure and the Height
error/Point for the level line also
update.
· Any values that are outside the
defined tolerances are displayed
in bold red.

2.7 To proceed to the last page of the wizard,

Select Next. In this page, the results for
the level line adjustment are displayed.
Select Finish, to close the level line wizard.

· In the Inspector, the level line

row and its graph update.

The icon next to the level line

indicates that the specific level
line has been adjusted in Infinity.

adjustment from a level line,

tab in the ribbon bar or right-click
for context menu.

3. Create a report

level lines and choose Reports Level
Line from the Home tab in the ribbon bar
or right-click for context menu.

After you view the report, close it and

return to the Inspector.

If you need to change the

Report Header, select Edit and
follow the instructions on the

necessary information about
the level line adjustment as well

sheet.
If you need to Reset the Report
Header to the default one,
select Reset.
