to the machine or protective device, as well as after re-fitting or repair
in the event of damage to the housing, front screen, connecting cable,
etc.
authorised personnel
LE 20 with M 2000
LE 20 with C 2000
Ø Move the test rod slowly through the length of the protective field
(see rating plate: "Resolution") at three different points:
1. Protective field limits/protective field markings close to sender
(access opening)
2. Protective field limits/protective field markings close to receiver
3. Protective field limits in middle between sender and receiver
Only the red LEDs on the LE 20 and the C 2000 must light.
Warning If one or more faults occur in the course of the test, the machine must
be shut down.
Guideline for all listed device combinations: If the green or green and
yellow LED(s) on the receiver light(s) at any point, the protective device
must be checked. Work must not be then allowed on the machine.

3 P rroduct
oduct description
LE 20
LE 20-Muting
The devices consist of a plastic housing with one (LE 20) or two (LE 20-
Muting) terminal strips for the electrical connections. The second terminal
strip (LE20-Muting) permits the connection of up to four muting sensors,
two muting indicator lamps and configuration connections for the muting
functions (see 3.4.1).
Note The two OSSD 1 and OSSD 2 outputs on the evaluation unit must be
maintained in two-channel configuration in the machine control.
Note Since the C 2000 and M 2000 test themselves, only outputs OSSD 1
and OSSD 2 of the C 2000 and M 2000 are connected to SENSOR A
and SENSOR B on the LE 20. The test inputs of the C 2000 and M
2000 must be connected to TEST A or TEST B on the LE 20.
External test
Since the LE 20 system tests itself, no external test is required and the
TEST EXTERN input must be connected to 24 V. If the machine control is
already set up for an external test, however, the LE 20 system can be
configured for external testing. For this, a NC contact is connected to the
TEST EXTERN input on the evaluation unit. At a signal level of 24 V at
this input the device self-test is active. If the 24-V signal is shut off for at
least 30 ms by a NC contact, the evaluation unit executes an additional
test cycle. The additional cycle tests the evaluation unit and the photo-
electric safety switches. To confirm the self-test was successful, the two
OSSD outputs on the evaluation unit switch Off. The NC contact must
then again connect 24 V to the TEST EXTERN input. If the test takes
longer than 150 ms, the reset interlock must be activated.
The TEXT EXTERN connection must not be used for the connection
of an Emergency Stop Switch.
Warning
When a beam of light has been interrupted, the reset interlock prevents
the machine from resetting until the Reset button - connected to the
RES terminal - has been pressed and released once the light beam is
clear.
The Reset button must also be pressed when the device is switched on.
The function is selective.
While the evaluation unit is waiting for the Reset command, a yellow LED
indicates the waiting condition. The Reset interlock is activated by
connecting 0 V to the RES DISABLE terminal and deactivated by
connecting 24 V to it.
The external device monitor checks that the connected switching device
(relay, contactor etc.) is operating correctly. The LE20 monitors the NC
contacts connected to the EDM terminals. Failure of operation of the
contacts results in the LE20 switching off the outputs and switching to
an error state. When the reset function is active, repeated attempts at
starting are possible. The signal at the EDM input must change within
300 ms. The external device monitor is activated by connecting 0 V to
the EDM DISABLE terminal and deactivated by connecting 24 V to it.
3.4.1 Muting
Muting conditions
Concurrence monitoring
Sequence monitoring
The muting sensors must always be arranged such that the material is
safely detected and personnel are unable to trigger the muting function.
In addition to the general safety advice given in section 2.2, we also
advise following the guidelines:
Fig. 3-4: The muting sensors should detect the load, not the pallet.
a = Pallet s = Material d = Muting sensor f = Transport plane
S M1
R M2
The detection line of the muting sensors must maintain a minimum distance
from the beams of the photoelectric safety switch.
a = Material S = Sender v = Belt speed [m/s]
R = Receiver m = Minimum distance [m] M 1, M 2 = Muting sensors
M1 S
M2 R
Note When the object is being conveyed forwards, the crossover point of the
beams should be behind the safety light beams.
When the object is being conveyed forwards and backwards, the cross-
over point of the muting sensors must be within the safety light beam.
The following diagrams show a number of example arrangements of
muting sensors.

3.4.3 Override
The override function allows you to move the object out of the muting
area when a fault has occurred. The evaluation unit can be enabled
despite the fact that the light beam is interrupted. This requires that the
muting sensors emit a valid muting signal. This function is indicated by
the Override lamp. The Override button must be pressed and released
again. Only when all muting sensors have been deactivated does the
system return to normal muting monitoring.
If the fault occurs repeatedly in muting mode, the system and the
arrangement of the muting sensors must be checked.
Note After the Override button has been pressed the system must be operat-
ing in normal muting monitoring mode again no more than 30 minutes
later, otherwise the evaluation unit will lockout.
A lamp can be connected to terminal 14 - OVERRIDE LAMP - and con-
figured to light up whenever the Override button can be pressed. If the
Override lamp is not lit, the Override function cannot be activated.
Note If the Override lamp is defective or not connected, the Override function
can still be activated (see section 8).
The Override function cannot be deselected.
Select the correct mounting locations for the Override button and
Override lamp!
Warning
The Override button must be installed such that it cannot be pressed
from within the danger zone and the entire danger zone is visible when
the button is being pressed. The Override lamp should be visible from the
system control console.

7 Ma i n t e n a n c e
The safety evaluation units LE 20 and LE 20-Muting are entirely main-
tenance-free. If the seven-segment display shows error messages,
remedial measures can be taken based on the troubleshooting table
presented in section 8.
Warning When a fault has been eliminated a complete function test must be
carried out.
8 T rroubleshooting
oubleshooting
The LE 20 evaluation unit monitors itself in operation:
After power-up, the device runs through a self-test in which it checks
the electronic hardware components.
If a fault is detected during the self-test, the device sends an error
message to the seven-segment display and stops any hazardous
operation.
The following troubleshooting table provides information on possible error
messages which may occur, their causes and remedial action:
