Students must complete parts A and B as detailed below.

Important Note
Failure to submit any of Parts A and B will result in a penalty in line with University
Policy. Late submissions will not be considered unless an EC1 application has been
submitted and accepted as per Ulster University regulations.

Part A (30%)

A. Identify three innovative products that are of interest to you as an individual.


Investigate and critically report on how one of these products (the one you
consider to be most innovative) came to developed, using your solutions to the
following questions as a guide:

1. When and where was the product invented?


2. Who invented it?
3. What was innovative about it?
4. Was it invented in response to a need or because of developments in
technology?
5. Was it an immediate success?
6. Has its design changed over time?
7. Has it led to any related or spin-off products?

Part B (70%)

Individual Coursework: New Venture Plan report


You are to develop a New Venture Plan.

Complete a comprehensive and robust new venture plan for the effective
implementation of a practical entrepreneurial project relating either to:

• New Venture Creation


• Enterprise Development
• Project Management
• Community Development

NOTE: Ensure your idea have passed the Feasibility Check that you are familiar with and know.

Points to Note:
1. A comprehensive New Venture Template may be used to assist you to complete your plan.
2. Time period: It should cover at least the first two years of your new venture's life but can be for
up to five years. For example, if a long period of R&D is involved initially then two years may be
too short a time frame and three years may be better.
3. Length: About 23 pages should be provided. This is just a guide length.
4. The material presented should be comprehensive, relevant and concisely written.
5. Marks weighting for this part/piece of course work is 70%

Further Guidance
In order to clarify the opportunity and prepare to write a venture plan, you have had to
complete a lot of ground work through research and analysis. In this module, so far you
have:
1. started thinking about developing an entrepreneurial team
2. found a new venture idea
3. given it a feasibility check
4. identified what resources will be required to get your new venture off the ground
5. identified how to access those resources and the costs involved
6. considered how you can further develop your own entrepreneurial potential and abilities

With confidence on your new venture potential, you are ready to embark on definitive
stage of this entrepreneurial journey, writing the new venture plan.

New Venture Plan Assessment Criteria.

(a) General Approach, Content and Entrepreneurship Theory – 20%


(What is an entrepreneur? Now that you have studied entrepreneurship, how does this
differ from the general perception {or perhaps your previous perception}?)
(Independent approach/interpretation; Logical and well-developed argument; Effective
synthesis and analysis of material including financial information; Evidence of genuine
effort – not a last minute plan; evidence that every section quoted within the
Blackboard Learn ‘New Venture Plan Template’ has been considered and
covered{where appropriate}).

(b) Entrepreneurship Application, Market Opportunity & Competitive Analysis 15%


(How is entrepreneurship applicable to current practice? Where is an entrepreneurial
attitude appropriate / inappropriate? Why are company employees not acting in an
entrepreneurial fashion? Why are company employees not encouraged & rewarded for
acting in an entrepreneurial fashion).
(Extent to which the business idea is innovative; extent to which it addresses market
needs; feasibility of venture ; differentiation of idea from those of competitors)

(c) Case study/example, specific project issues – 15%


(Show how an entrepreneurial attitude could increase profitability/productivity, or
illustrate how a current entrepreneurial approach is succeeding)
(Extent to which appropriate mix of skills to make the venture succeed is demonstrated;
adequacy of staffing infrastructure and projections; anticipated organisational
development over time)

(d) Style and Presentation – 10%


(Making the document feel like a single document, and not simply answering/addressing issues raised in
parts (a), (b) and (c) above, independently)
(Fluid and succinct writing; legible and well-set out piece of work; Business plan report
format; correct grammar and spelling throughout)

(e) Sources and Their Use – 10%


(Sources adequately acknowledged and referenced; Representative evidence chosen;
Evidence of outside/ additional reading and investigation)

Individual report
In your individual report, compare the theory of Entrepreneurship with current practice.
Based on your organisation: critically analyse and evaluate organisational culture,
behaviour and relationships. Using examples, identify key areas (if any) for
improvement.

This document should be approximately 23 pages in length, and should simply


represent an understanding of the Entrepreneurial approach to business. By example
of your own organisation (or other – in cases of unsuitability or confidentiality issues)
show either an example of where an entrepreneurial attitude could increase
profitability/productivity, or illustrate how a current entrepreneurial approach is
succeeding.
