WHAT I NEED TO KNOW (OBJECTIVE): Sketch literary elements using one’s own
experience.

Your lesson for today: You watched on tv and on online or maybe even witnessed how
ordinary people became heroes because of this pandemic. The stories of how the medical front
liners, the delivery men, hospital utility crew, street vendors put their lives at stake just to save
other people.
Do you know someone whom you think can be called a Modern Day Hero?
For today’s lesson, you will make a character sketch of your hero. You will use literary elements to
make your sketch captivating and interesting.

  QUALITIES  OF A HERO


Sacrifice is the forfeiture of something highly valued for the sake of one

considered to have a greater value or claim.
Determination is a fixed intention or resolution; a firmness of purpose or

 Loyalty is the feeling of allegiance or the act of binding oneself to a course of

 Dedication is a selfless devotion; complete and whole hearted fidelity or the act

Compassion A feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for others who are stricken by

Valor Valor is courage exhibited in war, and cannot be applied to single combats.
Selfless is the quality of unselfish concern for the welfare of others and acting

Conviction is a fixed or strong belief; a necessity of the mind or an unshakable

Gallantry Gallantry is adventurous courage, which courts danger with a high and cheerful spirit.

What is a CHARACTER SKETCH? A kind of writing that is devoted to an analysis or
representation of your character especially of peculiar, interesting or remarkable character traits.
When you write a character sketch, you want the reader to have a strong mental image of the character,
the way he looks, thinks, feels.

To help you in writing your character sketch, here are things you need to understand and
remember

A. PROCESS

 Brainstorm on ideas (Who is the person you consider as your hero?)


 Write your first draft
 Revise /Proofread
 Write final copy

B. FORMAT

 Beginning

Anecdote/Quotation you can use to introduce your first paragraph

Most important character traits why you consider him/her a hero

 Middle (Supporting details)

What does your character look like?

What does the character do?

How does your character think?

 Conclusion Your opinion

A character sketch is a kind of nonfiction text about an interesting and inspiring person in one’s
life. Its purpose is to make both the writer and the reader have an overview of a character using
literary elements used in both fiction and nonfiction writing.
The character sketch should have an Introduction, Body and Conclusion to tie up all the events
together and to have a clear picture of the subject.

Evaluation: Evaluation: Write a Character sketch of your hero. Follow the format in the
discussion. Give a TITLE to your output. If your subject is a family member, you can do an
interview for additional information or a remote interview if outside of family.
