This interpretation by Sir Cyril Norman Hinshelwood, a Noble prize-winning Chemist and an Oxford
Graduate seem to be one of the most striking convictions about the realm of Chemistry. This multi-
faceted discipline is a world in itself and its potency to justify the vibrant reactions between substances
allured me towards itself right since the early years of my schooling. Further during the study of its
practical implications and working with chemicals got me immensely interested in Chemistry’s applied
nature. As an ardent enthusiast of this branch of Science, I have grown up aligning my career prospects
towards reaching the core of Chemistry that has enabled me to envision myself conducting
groundbreaking researches years down the line. Therefore at this point in my career, I have decided to
attain a Masters's degree in Chemistry from the eminent University of Oxford; with Physical and
Theoretical Chemistry being my first choice followed by Inorganic Chemistry.
During the elementary years of my schooling, extensive exposure to the concepts of reactions between
chemical substances added to my inclination about knowing how these reactions occur and in which
way they can be manipulated to produce useful products. From the disappearance of pink color in
titration activity to consistent efforts in analyzing the different salts; my skills and knowledge evolved by
leaps and bounds. I believe Chemistry not only evoked my admiration towards it but also refined my
rational thinking and analytical abilities. Above all, it strengthened my scientific mindset to trust the
process, which I believe is the most significant trait of a Chemistry fanatic. With meticulous efforts and
consistent hard work, my grasping skills helped in getting a stronghold over other conceptual subjects of
my branch as well. Eventually, after the completion of my higher secondary with 9.8 CGPA, I went on to
ace my senior secondary with a 95.4% aggregate score and was selected for the coveted INSPIRE
scholarship that is given to just top 1% scorers of 12th standard in the science stream looking forward to
navigating their career towards scientific research.
This scholarship played the role of a catalyst in giving wings to my desire of studying the intricacies of
Chemistry. Hence I reinforced my bond with this discipline and chose to pursue the Bachelor of Science
degree with Chemistry Honors from the renowned Delhi University. I am currently in my final year of
this program but have already been able to figure my choice of sub-field in which I wish to delve deeper
ahead in my career. Though the study curriculum over a period of two years as of now has immersed me
into the rigorous modules encompassing Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry with a few electives
and Skill enhancement courses, but I find myself majorly interested in the Physical stream along with the
Inorganic stream as well. On one hand, the Physical branch deals with several stimulating technological
queries and the physical nature of proteins and nanostructures. On the other hand, Inorganic chemistry
diversifies my cognition to traverse through the fuel cells and solar-cell materials to catalysts and
magnetic materials.
As the penultimate year of my degree unfolds, I am yet to discover the arena of Green chemistry and
Inorganic chemicals as skill-enhancing courses along with the MMDD (molecular modeling and drug
design) and Industrial chemicals & environment as my Discipline's Specific Elective modules. Apparently,
till now, I have accumulated enough insight under my belt to back my choices of moving forward
without any turbid assumptions whatsoever. I did a research project on "Computational chemistry"
under the guidance of my college professors last summer that added value to my resourceful
inquisitiveness in the Research field. Currently, I'm engrossed in a research project on”A review on
degradation of chemical waste by using metal oxide semiconductors”; that has encouraged me to
magnify my efforts towards digging deeper into the nucleus of Chemistry’s research affiliations. Hence I
want to realize the dream of studying at the esteemed University of Oxford which seems to be the
perfect platform where I can unleash my true potentials.
I find the Master of Science programs at your institution as one of the most comprehensive and
sophistically designed study courses that offer a broad range of knowledge enrichment opportunities.
My first choice is the Research in Physical and Theoretical Chemistry that consists of pertinent core
courses, out of which I found almost all the topics intriguing because somehow it relates to one of the
three sectors- Environment, Health, and Technology; while the second preference of Research in
Inorganic Chemistry as well as the focus areas on most emerging topics. I am mindful of the research
segment of advanced functional materials and interfaces whose key areas include molecular
nanotechnology & nanolubrication. In either of these branches, the most appealing feature that I have
found is the supervision opportunity that would offer me the pioneering chance to stay under the
fruitful guidance of the nation's most gifted research chemists. I am also looking forward to enhancing
my industry-specific skills by learning from the Professors and Lecturers in your University’s Department
of Chemistry; who are backed by years of experience.
The Oxford University of the United Kingdom has carved a niche in educating a wide range of notable
alumni who have proved their mettle across the world. It stays as one of the most aspired study abroad
destinations to explore research education due to its cutting-edge level of excellence along with state-
of-the-art research facilities. At your institution, I would get to learn and socialize with some of the
smartest researchers from all corners of the world. The knowledge that I would equip during my study
tenure would carve me into a diligent scientist to take up currently one of the most relevant research
topics of molecular nanotechnology & nanolubrication in the technology sector that precisely
emphasizes the application of science in the betterment and evolution of the society. In the long term, I
also have plans to return to my homeland and work as a proficient Research Scientist in renowned
institutions like the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or Advanced Materials and
Processes Research Institute (AMPRI). During my college education, I have been proactively involved as
a volunteer, coordinator, or active member in Social NGOs, Environmental Society, and Women
Development Cells. Therefore at the Oxford University as well, I would try to prove an asset by making a
positive impact in bringing the laurels for your University's community outreaches and social fronts.
