    RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT

    1 PURPOSE: Preventive Maintenance of Earth Pit.

    2 SCOPE OF To check Healthiness Earth Pit.


    APPLICATION:
    3 CROSS ISO 9001:2008 CL. NO. 5.4.2
    REFERENCES: ISO 14001:2004 CL. NO.4.3.3
    OHSAS 18001:2007 CL. NO. 4.3.3

    4 PROCEDURE:
    TASK RESPONSIBILITY
    1 Ensure the proper permit / clearance as per the WPS
    2 Join / short C1 and P1 terminals on the earth megger and
    connect a lead from them to the earth electrode “E” under test.

    3 Keep the shorting lead as short as possible since this resistance


    will be included in the test
    4 Connect the lead from P2 terminal to one test spike and the lead
    from C2 terminal to another test spike. The test spikes are called
    as current electrode C2 and potential electrode P2
    5 Install the test spikes, by driving them to a depth of 30 cm in
    earth. DM / AM / AE
    6 The spacing between the two test spikes / Electrodes is such
    that, the current electrode C2 is 30 to 50 meters from the
    electrode under test “E”. the potential electrode P2 should be Engg/Supervisor/AM
    inserted at 61.896 % of this distance in a straight line with the
    other two.
    7 Connect the instrument for the particular test equipment as
    described above
    8 Set the range selector switch to the highest range, if any.
    9 Rotate the earth megger handle at desired speed and observe the
    ohmmeter deflection
    10 If the ohmmeter deflection is very low, change the range selector
    switch to the next lower range.
    11 Rotate the earth megger handle and record the reading as shown
    by the deflection on the meter.

    Head of the Department shall ensure the implementation of the above procedure. In case of
    any deviation, corrective and preventive actions shall be initiated.
