CIPS Principal Marker (External) Report:
Qualification: Diploma in procurement and supply
Module: L4M8 Exam series: November 2019 Date of completion: 2nd January 2020
These reports are designed to help tutors and learners understand the common trends presented by both strong and weaker answers in relation to the module for the given exam series.
Learning Outcome 1: QUESTION REFERENCE L4M80010
The question addressed learning outcome 1: Demonstrate the application of the procurement cycle. This question focussed on describing SLA’s and KPI’s that could be included in material contracts. This was generally not well answered. Better answers included details of KPI’s and SLA’s explaining how they could be measured and the impact on the failure to meet the KPI or SLA. Poorer answers described elements of the contracts such as contract termination or ethical policies rather than measurable KPI’s and SLA’s. Learning Outcome 2: QUESTION REFERENCE L4M80011 The question addressed learning outcome 2: Demonstrate the application of the key stages of the sourcing process. This question focussed on the different supplier selection criteria which could be used to evaluate potential suppliers. This was a generally well answered question with many responses able to provide and explain five different selection criteria. Weaker responses described supplier selection methods such as PQQ’s and site visits without describing the criteria to be assessed during the visit or in the PQQ. Learning Outcome 3: QUESTION REFERENCE L4M80012 The question addressed learning outcome 3: Demonstrate the application of whole life asset management. This question focussed on the analysis of the elements of ‘whole life asset management’. Stronger responses were able to provide the different elements which form the ‘whole life asset management’ in detail. Weaker responses failed to address all constituent parts of ‘whole life asset management’ or apply the analysis to the case study material. Learning Outcome 4: QUESTION REFERENCE L4M80009 The question addressed learning outcome 4: Demonstrate the application of ethical and responsible sourcing within an organisation. This question provided candidates with an opportunity to analyse the information provided and then to describe actions to ensure the correct operation of a framework. Weaker responses analysed the data without providing clear findings or suggested findings without the supporting analysis. Part b of the question was reasonably well answered, with a number of actions suggested to ensure the correct operation of the framework; however these generally lacked breadth and depth of detail.
