TUTORIAL SHEET-3
TS SUBJECT TOPICS DOUBTS IN QUES.
3 PHYSICS ELECTROSTATICS
(Concept-1 to Concept-10)

1. What is meant by quantization of charge ?

2. Find the force on the charge q placed at the centre of the square of side ‘a’ in the following arrangement?

Q Q

3. Give the dimensional formula of electrical permittivity

4. What is the angle between electric field Intensity at axial pt of electric dipole & dipole moment vector?
5. Give two properties of charge which are different from properties of mass.

6. What is direction of electric dipole moment vector?

7. A charge q is placed at the centre of the line joining two equal charges Q. Show that the system of three charges
will be in equilibrium if q = –Q/4.
8. Three identical spheres A, B, and C carry charges as shown in the figure.

Spheres ‘A’ and ‘B’ when at a certain distance apart repel each other with force ‘F’. Sphere ‘C’ is first bought in
contact with ‘A’, then in contact with ‘B’ and finally removed. Now spheres ‘A’ & ‘B’ are kept apart at the same
original distance from each other. Find the new force between ‘A’ & ‘B’.

15. Two similarly equally charged identical metal spheres A and B repel each other with a force of 2.0×105 N. A third
identical uncharged sphere C is touched to A, then placed at the mid-point between A and B. Calculate the net
electrostatic force on C.
16. Two identical charged spheres are suspended in air by strings of equal lengths and make an angle of 30° with each
other. When suspended in a liquid of density 0.8 g/cc, the angle remains the same. What is the dielectric constant
of the liquid ? Take density of the material of the sphere = 1.6 g/cc
17. Derive an expression for electric field intensity at an axial point and equatorial point of an electric dipole. Hence
show that for a short electric dipole, the axial electric field is twice the equatorial electric field.

A
18. Two point charges +9e and +e are kept at a distance a from each-other. Where should we place a thirdcharge q on
the line joining the two charges so that it may be in equilibrium?

N
19. Two equal positive charges, each of 2 C interact with a third positive charge of 3 C situated as shown in Fig.
Calculate the magnitude and direction of the force on the 3 C charge.
