4. Procedures
4.1 Introductory Activity CAPTURE THE ESSENCE
>Invite the learners to watch a video of a Darren Tay, 2014 Toastmaster Champion delivering a talk entitled,
"Outsmart, Outlast."
>Instruct them to share their insight/understanding on the message conveyed by the speaker through having
them choose and complete one item (open-ended sentence) from the list below.
*I think that... *The best thing... *I loved it when...
*What I can relate to most is... *I agree with... *I really laughed when...
>Ask the learners how the act of the speaker delivering a talk before the crowd is called.
7 minutes >Present the lesson and the objectives of the day.

4.4 Abstraction

*Public Speaking occurs when you give a speech before a live audience.
*Advantages:
>improves a speaker's confidence level;
>gives opportunity to champion a cause ;
>helps one find a job;
* It involves Visual Factor, Mental Factor, Vocal Factor and Verbal Factor.
* It also observes certain ethics which refers to invisible rules and guide or basis of behavior that a public
speaker or an aspiring public speaker should engrave in the hearts and minds of the listeners.
*To acquire an effective public speaking skills and become an effective speaker, one must
learn and employ the techniques in public speaking.
5 minutes *The following are the Public Speaking Techniques:
1. Appeal to your audience;
2.Use nonverbal communication;
3. Emphasize key moments;
4. Hook your audience;
5.Always remember your public speaking goals;
6. Practice your speech;
7. Relax;
8. Use visual aids.

4.5 Application WHAT WE CAN DO


>Collaboratively (by group) let the learners tell the Public Speaking Technique/s they must apply being in any of
the following speaking situations.
*Here, each group is asked to pick a rolled paper where a speaking situation is written.
1. You will be facing your principal and teachers in a public speaking contest in the school. Your
knees and your hands are trembling. What techniques are you going to employ?
2. The audience you will be talking to are restless and noisy students. You were informed that this
group of students do not want to listen to long talks. What are you going to do to let them stay
and listen?
3. Your audience show no interest in your talk. It is evident because they are no longer listening to
you. What techniques are applicable? How are you going to employ these techniques to win
back the attention of your audience?
4. You are assigned to report in your English class about overcoming challenges during this time of
pandemic. You are aware that your audience/classmates love to listen to songs and are fond of
pickup lines. How are you going to utilize these in the delivery of your report?
5. In the preparation of your talk, you got so many references. A lot of ideas are coming, and you
6 minutes are now having the dilemma on how to present these. You only have a short time to prepare.
What technique should be employed to keep you on track?
