INTERMEDIATE PISTOL MARKSMANSHIP COURSE
for the National Bureau of Investigation
Program of Instruction
The Intermediate Pistol Marksmanship builds upon the essential lessons established
in the previous Basic Pistol Marksmanship Course. This course introduces students
to techniques that will oblige them to be aware and start using their surroundings to
their advantage as well as deal with the unknown and unexpected realities that may
crop up during the execution of their law enforcement duties.
The course will not only serve develop their skills to an instinctive level, it will also
compel them to think about and resolve unforeseen events that may arise in a lethal
force encounter.
OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course, participants will:
 Reinforce the abilities to safely and effectively manipulate their primary

weapons system, among others, that were learned during the Basic Pistol
Marksmanship Course;
 Be able differentiate and effectively employ cover and concealment;
 Shoot from various postions;
 Reacting and moving to / away from threats safely and competently;
COURSE CONTENTS
The seminar will cover the following topics, to wit:
A. Review of Previous Lessons from Basic Pistol Marksmanship Course

o Four Universal / Gun Safety Rules
o Mindset and Preparation
B. Shooting Positions
o Pistol Operations – Standing, Kneeling, Prone, Urban Prone
o Gaining New Perspective on the Battle Space
C. Cover and Concealment

o Difference between Cover and Concealment
o Employment of Different Shooting Positions vis-à-vis Cover /
Concealment
D. Contact Drills
o Reacting to Contact – Left, Right, Rear
o OODA Loop
o Terminologies
E. Malfunction Drills
o Identifying Types of Malfunctions and their Remedies
F. Immediate Action
o Strong Hand Manipulation

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Participants are required to comply with minimum health standards.
Participants are expected to have the accompanying basic gear:

o Service pistol with three (3) magazines
o Holster and minimum two (2) magazine carriers
o EDC or Gun belt
o Eye Protection
o Hearing Protection
o Optional Gear (if available) will include:
- Additional magazines
- Plate Carrier / Body Armor
- Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) w/ Tourniquet
- All other gear as may be prescribed and/or required
In addition, the participants must have institutional knowledge of agency and

operational functions and must have successfully passed the Basic Pistol
Marksmanship Course or equivalent.
COURSE METHODOLOGY
The conduct of the program will be done in a variety of teaching methods such as
lecture, interactive discussion, hands-on / actual training with one-on-one
instructor/student participation (if needed). Group activities will be done in later
classes or as required by course curriculum
COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
A participant will receive a Certificate of Completion if:
- if he/she has attended at least 90% of the workshop hours.

- if he/she passes the Final Exam qualification with at least an 80% passing mark in
practical exercises (if practicable).
Participants’ attendance checking will be done at start of day and end of day
everyday
DURATION
The workshop will be conducted for a total of forty hours (40) hours. Sessions will be
held every day for a total of five (5) days at eight (8) hours per day.
