Name: Rowena Saquin- Banua Subject: Earth & Life Science

Date: September 19- 23, 2022 Section: Lycopene & Carotene

COMPETENCY:classify rocks into igneous, sedimentary, and

metamorphic

CODE:S11ES-Ic-6

I. Objectives: At the end of the session, the students are expected to;

a. distinguish the three main types of rocks

b. define rock cycle
c. discuss the value of perseverance

II. Subject Matter: ROCKS AND ROCK CYCLE

III. Materials: realia of rocks illustrations, worksheets, pictures

IV. Procedure: 4A’s Method

Review:

Motivation:
The students are asked to perform the activity below. Let the class
read the directions below before performing the activity.

General Directions: Read and perform the activity below.

Allotted Time: 3 minutes(Timer is use.)

Materials:
3 plastic containers spatula
flour gloves
clay loam piece of wood
Mechanics:
1. The class is grouped into 3.
2. Each group is given the set of the materials above.
3. Make sure that each layer is set evenly in the container.
4. Pour the clay loam as the first layeron the container.
5. On top of the clay, pour the flour on it.
6. Repeat number 3 to 4.
7. On the top most of the set-up, pour the clay loam again.
8. Finally, face your output and push the set up to the right.
9. Each group will answer the following questions given to them.
10. The teacher asks the following questions after the activity.
a. What physical quantity did you apply to deform the layers?
b. Are the layers still horizontal?
c. Describe the appearance now.

Statement of the aim:

The activity a while ago is just the concrete on how rocks deformed and form into
different geologic features such as landforms and water forms as we can see
today. Today we will discuss about FOLDING and FAULTING OF ROCKS. To
fully understand how this activity helps shape the Earth today we have to
accomplish the following aims;

a. distinguishfolding and faulting of rocks.

b. differentiate the types of stress.
c. illustrate the different directions of the stress in each type.
d. identify the types of boundaries created by each type of stress.
e. discuss the different ways in coping stress in this time of pandemic.

A. Activity:( This approach is using differentiated instructions.)

a. General Directions: Read and perform the activity below.
b. Allotted Time: 3 minutes (Timer is use.)
c. Material:
clay in 3 colors
d. Mechanics:
1. With the same group, the students are given clay in 3 colors.
2. Each group is given the table to accomplish.
3. Using clay, make a model of the 3 boundaries by pushing or stretching
the clay to the direction of the forces applied on it.
4. Complete the table below given to you by writing your answers in each
column.

activity.)
1 Convergent
2 Divergent
3 Transform

Kinds of Physical Stress that causes Folding and Faulting of Rocks:

1. Compression- rocks move towards each other
2. Tension (pulling them apart) - rocks move away from each other
3. Shearing - rocks slide past each other
B. Analysis:

The teacher asks the following questions.

1. What causes the deformation of rocks?
2. What is the difference between folding and faulting of rocks?
3. What are the types of stress and the direction of the force?
4. What plate boundary is being created by each type of stress?

C. Abstraction:
General Terms:

a. Stress- the force applied to a rock, which may cause deformation

b. Types of Stress:
i. Compression- rocks move towards each other
ii. Tension - rocks move away from each other
iii. Shearing - rocks slide past each other
c. Plate boundary created by each stress type:
i. Compression- convergent
ii. Tension - divergent
d.
iii. Shearing - transform fault

E. Assessment:

Directions: Answer the following questions below. Write your answers in the sheet
provided to you. You have 5 minutes to do your work. Write your answer
in a half sheet of paper.
Matching type:

General Directions:Match the type of stress in column Ato the direction of the force or
stress in Column B and the geologic features in column C. Answers
in column C can be more than 1 (one). Write the letter only and
separate this with a comma to proceed to the next column.
Column A Column B Column C

1. Compression A. away from each other a. Lake Duminagat

2. Tension (pulling apart) B. towards each other b. Bukagan Hill
3. Shearing C. slide apart c. Labo River
d. San Andreas Fault
e. Mt. Malindang

Value Integration: Students are asked with the following questions.

1. How do you define stress in relation to your studies?
2. Are there things in school that could be considered as stressors?
3. How do you cope up stress in school?

V. Assignment: Read in advance about the internal structure of the Earth and in a
half sheet crosswise, answer the following questions below.

1. Identify the layers of the Earth.

2. Differentiate each layer.
