I. Introduction
Every computer is accompanied with a storage device that may be internal or an external
one. They can virtually store all the software resources utilized by an end user. Aside from storage
devices, expansion cards such as Sound Cards and Video Cards offers extended functionalities for the
computer as well. To utilize them and other software resources in your computer, you can navigate
and manipulate them using the Graphical User Interface (GUI).

This module will give you an in-depth explanation of Multimedia Storage Devices, Sound
Cards, Video Cards and GUI.

Learning Activity 1: Hit that Board!: The Rules of Darts
In the previous module, you have learned the parts and functions of a motherboard in the
entirety of a computer system. Moreover, you were able to familiarize yourself as to how the
Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) affects the performance and settings of your
computer.

This time, you will begin another learning journey. Brace yourself and get ready to take
another flight to the succeeding concepts of computer systems.

Let me take you to the first activity of this module.

Mechanics of the Activity:

You are provided with three darts hitting three different colors of the board.
Each dart symbolizes one idea you know about Storage Devices. It could be any of the
following:

 Device Name, Model, Manufacturer and Storage Capacity

 Device Characteristics and Functionalities
 Your personal experience when you have tried using them.

Learning Activity 2. The Color Codes: Knowing My Sound Card

The previous task allowed you to write and share your ideas about Storage Devices using 3
darts hitting one board. You were able to explore your mind and think of the things you know about
them.
This time, let’s check how well you know Sound Card and its connections. In order to do so,
here is the second activity you need to complete.

Mechanics of the Activity:

You are given a picture of Sound Card audio ports and the different devices connected to it
namely: Headphone, Speaker, Microphone, CD Player and Joystick.
Pick the correct device to be paired and connected in each audio port.
Choose from the selection of images inside the container box. Copy the names only.

REMEMBER THIS
A motherboard has expansion slots that can extend the computer's functionality,
like a video card or a sound card.
The expansion card is plugged directly into the expansion port so that the
motherboard has direct access to the hardware. However, since all computers have a limited
number of expansion slots, it's important to open your computer and check what's available
before you buy one.

What Video Card Do I Have?

In Windows, the easiest way to see what video card you have is to use Device Manager. You
can find the video card listed under the Display adapters section.
Opening the computer case is another option, allowing you to see for yourself what video card
is installed. Do this if you plan to replace the video card, but identifying information about it is
best done through the mentioned above (Fisher, 2019).
How to Install or Update Video Card?
If you know what video card driver you need, you can go directly to the manufacturer's
website and manually download it. This is the best way to get drivers because you can be
confident that the driver is stable and doesn't contain any malware.

If you don't know the specific video card driver that you need, or if you'd rather not
download and install the driver manually, you can use a free program to automatically detect
the driver you need and even download it for you (Fisher, 2019).

 Sound Card 
Getting to Know It!

The sound card is an expansion card that allows the computer to send audio information to an
audio device, like speakers, a pair of headphones, etc.

Unlike the CPU and RAM, the sound card isn't a necessary piece of hardware required to make
a computer work (Fisher, 2019).

Probable Answers:

First Dart: Storage devices comes in different forms. One example is a USB Flash Drive. This comes
in various models such as Kingston Data Traveler, Cruzer SanDisk or CD-R King and mostly ranges
from 2 gigabyte and higher.

Second Dart: Hard disk drives are examples of storage device which is directly installed in a desktop
computer for keeping and retrieving of files for a long- term period.

Third Dart: For an output submission, I previously used a rewritable Compact Disc (CD) to burn my
files with a file size of 500 MB.

The three things I learned from this lesson are the following: First, I was able to identify the
differences between a primary and a secondary storage. Second, I learned that a cloud drive or a
network has the capability to store files for a long -term period just like flash drives and hard disks.
Lastly, I have learned that the expansion cards may be in a form of a video or sound card that directly
provides additional functionalities to the computer.

1. In the first scenario, I can conclude that there is an incorrect port connection between the speaker
and the computer. It might be plugged on to other ports where it is not suited.

and the VGA port since the power cord was found to be working well.

second scenario, the VGA port has to be tightened to secure a good connection to the display monitor.

1. A boot device is any piece of hardware that can read or contains the files required for a computer to
start. For example, a hard drive, floppy disk drive, CD-ROM drive, DVD drive, and USB jump
drive are all considered bootable devices.

2. The steps in creating a bootable device using RUFUS Application are the following:
 Install the Rufus Application in your desktop or laptop.
 Insert an empty flash drive and make sure that the computer recognizes the device.
 Launch the Rufus Application
 Get the Windows Operating System ISO file
 Check the correct settings
 Start Copying.
 Allow the process to finish
