CHAPTER 4 : ORGANIZING

Louis Vuitton is one of the 60 brands or divisions of the holding company


LVMH (a French family trust) financially controlled by Bernard Arnault,
Chairman and CEO who personifies the company. However the structure
followed a principle of decentralization of decision-making on the group’s
brand level where brands are considered houses of family history. The value
of each brand is closely linked with the independence of driving their
creativity. Each company operates independently because of Michael Burke,
executive of LVMH, is the chairman and executive of the brand since 2012
when his predecessors Yves Carcelle and interm Jordi Constans had to step
away for health reason.

The group structure is decentralised per operating companies. Therefore,


Louis Vuitton as a brand operates as departments which are bound to
geographical markets. In 2002, the LV building in Tokyo’s Ginza district was
opened. Within 2003, the stores in Moscow, Russia and New Delhi, India
were opened. Louise Vuitton celebrated its 150 th anniversary in 2004 and
inaugurated stores in New York City. It also opened its first global store in
Shanghai. By 2005, Louis Vuitton reopened its store in Paris designed by the
American Architect Eric Carison and the luxurious store in London in 2010. on
17 September 2011, the company opened its Louis Vuitton Island Maison at
Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

Louis Vuitton is a tall organization that having a long chain of command


from top to bottom. It is an organization chart characterized by many levels
and a relatively narrow span of management. In top level, Bernard Arnault is
the chairman of Louis Vuitton and the CEO of LVMH Moet Hennessy, the
world’s leading luxury products group after he became the majority
shareholder of LVMH Moet Hennessy. Mr. Arnault is also President of the
Board of Directors of Groupe Arnault S.E. (his family holding company). There
are 12 positions for the middle level of the management of LVMH.

Antonio Belloni had joined LVMH in 2001 as Group Managing Director,


with responsibility for strategic and operational management of Group
companies. Delphine Arnault has been the Executive Vice President of Louis
Vuitton since September 2013 and he is in charge of supervising all of Louis
Vuitton’s product related activities. In 1999, Managing Director of Groupe was
appointed to Arnault Nicolas Bazire and he became one of the members of
the LVMH Board of Directors in Development and Acquisitions. Since
February 2018, Pietro Beccari has been Chairman and CEO of Christian Dior
Couture. MIchael Burke was appointed CEO of Bulgari and then Chairman
and CEO of Louis Vuitton in 2012. In 2007, Chantal Gaemperle has joined in
LVMH as Group Executive. Vice President Human Resources and Synergies.
Andrea Guerra has held the position as CEO of LVMH Hospitality Excellence.
Before becoming Chief Financial Officer in 2004, Jean Jacques Guiony joined
LVMH as Deputy Finance Director in 2003. Chris de Lapuente joined LVMH in
2011 as Chief Executive Officer of Sephora and let the Maison until
September 2020. Today he oversees Sephora, Le Bon Marché and the
Perfumes & Cosmetics division. Philippe Schaus has been CEO of Moët
Hennessy, the Wines and Spirits division of LVMH since 1 October 2017.
Sidney Tolendano was appointed Chairman and CEO of LVMH Fashion
Group, which includes numerous prestigious brands (Celine, Givenchy,
Loewe, Emilio Pucci, Kenzo, Marc Jacobs, Nicholas Kirkwood, Rossimoda,
Patou) in February 2018. Jean Baptiste Voisin joined LVMH as Chief Strategy
Officer in 2006. All of them is the member of the Executive Committee.
