LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 6

Functions of the Major Components of the Circulatory System

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate understanding of how do the
simple food reach the body cells.
B. Performance Standard The learners should be able to make illustration showing
nutritious foods that promote different functions of
digestion, repair of tissues, excretion, reproduction,
respiration and circulation.
C. Learning Competency Explain how the simple food benefit cells in the human
body.
1. Unpacked Identify and describe the functions of the major
Competency components of the circulatory system.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Functions of the Major Components of the Circulatory
System.
The circulatory system is the transport system of the
body. Its major parts are the heart, the blood, and the
blood vessels (arteries, veins, and capillaries).
The heart- pumps the blood to the different parts of the
B. Science Ideas body.
The blood- is the fluid component that circulates
throughout the body.
The blood vessels- are tube-like structures that differ in
thickness and size.

III. Learning Activities

A. Engage
1. Drill Let the learners read the following words.
Head and Forelimbs
Lung
Liver
Ventricle (V)
Atrium (A)

2. Review

Make a heart house (Spelled Out)

We learned that the heart is a muscle–a very strong muscle!

Though from pictures the heart looks solid, it actually has

four chambers or “rooms”.

The learners will spelled out the four chambers or rooms of

the heart.
B. Explore
1. Motivation Can you name the organs that make up the circulatory
system?
2. Presentation Now watch this video and find out what are the major
components of the circulatory system.
Note: video clip can be downloaded at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqdcwPsfKXg

3. Pre- Activity After watching the video, learners will be grouped into four.
Each group will be given a task to perform it.
1. Assign a leader, a reporter and a recorder.
2. Each group will be given an activity and answer the
questions in the activity sheet.
3. Let the learners recite or give the standards for the group
activity.

4. Activity Proper Distribute the activity sheet. Let the learners answer the
activity within the given time.
*see attached activity sheets.
C. Explain
1. Group Reporting The presenter in each group will present their output in front
and name what each components represents. It will use the
Activity sheet given to it.
2. Discussion What are the major components of the circulatory system?
Describe the function of each component.
D. Elaborate
1. Generalization What are the components of the Circulatory System? What
are their functions?
2. Application How are you going to take care of your heart and body?
What happens when the circulatory systems fails to work
properly?
How do you know that something is wrong with it?
Label the major components of the Circulatory System

A. Evaluate

IV. Assignment Find out the difference between open and closed circulatory
system. Give examples of animals that exhibit open and close
circulation of circulatory system.

ACTIVITY SHEET
Activity no. 1.1 “Model of the Heart”
Objective: This model shows the blood flowing through heart.
Materials/Procedures:
1. To make a simple model of the heart, you will need clear tubings, a plastic bottle,
