1. Read the following text about an important festival in the United Kingdom.
The Fringe Festival is the largest of the festivals. In 2018, it featured more than 55,000
performances of 3,548 different shows in 317 venues. There are circus, music, dance, comedy,
theatre performances and much more, comedy is the most common performance. People love to go
there and have fun with their families; also, kids participate in the circus’ games and they buy a lot
of candies and food to keep the energy up. You can do many things in this festival; for example, my
dad prefers this festival because it has many activities to do; he travels every year to attend to the
festival and he is very excited to participate and have fun.
Another popular event is the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. It takes place at the castle each night;
in this event, Military musicians perform and play music for the tourists, also, there is a great light
and fireworks display to call everybody´s attention. In this festival, a leader shows and explains the
importance of military presence around the world; also, he or she has the mission to maintain the
people organized and attentive, he works very hard to have everything perfect.
On the other hand, the Art Festival is very famous and love for people; in this event, people enjoy
the art and the different paintings, also kids play around painting their bodies and their friends’.
People drink artisanal beverages and they eat hot dogs, pizza, hamburger and others. My mom is a
fan of this festival, she loves to assist and to participate in the drawing contest; also, she likes to win
and give the price to the poor people.
Attending the festival is a great experience, but planning ahead is a good idea. Hundreds of
thousands of people attend each year, so you need to book accommodation and tickets for popular
shows in advance. But don’t plan too much!
