1.0 Introduction
This guide explains how to install Modular Mining’s in-dash PTXC mobile platform with a third-party
radio on Komatsu electric-drive haul trucks.
This guide applies to both factory installations and after-market field installations.
• Factory installation: Install the PTXC unit.
• After-market field installation: The PTXC unit was factory installed. Install the GPS antenna.
Note: For trucks in the field, if no mobile platform components were installed at the factory, complete the
entire installation (PTXC unit and GPS and antenna).
1 In the PDF file, select File > Print to display the Print window.
If the guide does not print correctly with PostScript pass-through disabled, select File > Print >
Advanced > Print As Image in the PDF file before printing.
Warning:Always verify with the OEM/customer where to connect to power on the vehicle. And DO
NOT ASSUME the ground location is valid. Check ground with a multimeter to avoid damaging the
Modular Mining or OEM system.
Warning: When choosing cable runs, do not place cables in walkways or standing areas. Also, do
not run cables near sources of excessive heat, such as engines or air conditioning units, as this will
damage cable integrity leading to shorts and expose the system to electrical fires.
This guide contains the following Warning notices on page 24:
Warning: To help prevent multipath errors and signal loss, any metallic structure (masts, panels,
boxes, etc.) within two feet of any GPS antenna should never be above the antenna's ground plane
height. As a general rule, the antenna's view of the sky to the horizon should be as free from metallic
obstructions as possible.
Welding Guidelines
Always refer to and follow the equipment manufacturer’s standard welding guidelines.
Follow all mine-specific requirements and procedures for welding.
If specific equipment manufacturer’s welding standards are not available, welders should follow a
local industry standard welding guideline, such as, but not limited to:
• AWS (American Welding Society).
• ISO (International Standards Organization).
• CSA (Canadian Standards Association).
• AS/NZS (Australian/New Zealand Standards).
Before welding, ensure that the main power of the equipment is completely de-energized and
locked out for safety.
Protect all MMS components with welding protection materials. Welding protection materials may
include welding blankets, welding curtains, and welding screens. The welding protection materials
must be high heat resistant, non-flammable, non-melting, and spark-resistant. You must use the
materials to isolate, cover, and protect all Modular Mining hardware components (hardware,
enclosures, conduit, coax cables, power cables/wires, wiring harnesses, antennas, etc.) from:
• Sparks.
• Welding slag.
• Molten metal.
• Extreme high heat.
• Arc from heavy welding.
• The torch flame.
Do not connect welding ground leads directly to any Modular Mining hardware, enclosures,
masts, etc.
Do not lay welding cables over or near the equipment electrical harnesses. Doing so might induce
welding voltage into the electrical harness and cause damage to components.
Fully cover all finished welds with rust-inhibiting paint. The paint color should match the color of
the surrounding base surface and should be approved by the controlling maintenance department
for each equipment type.
Modular Mining recommends inspecting all welds as part of standard system checks. Repair or
repaint cracks or other visible defects, as necessary.
5.7 Prerequisites
Before the installation, set the PTXC unit’s Ethernet parameters for the mine network. Refer to the
Installing the DISPATCH Mobile Application manual for DE or DE Lite.

Warning:Ethernet 2 PoE is on the same bus as CAN power, so enabling Eth 2 PoE also enables
CAN 1 and CAN 2 power. As a result, after you enable power over Eth 2, do not connect the Ethernet
2, CAN 1, or CAN 2 cable directly to an OEM device without first terminating the cable without power.
Otherwise, damage to OEM systems may occur. To terminate the Ethernet 2 cable without power,
refer to the Proc Conn RJ-45 Large OD Wire No-PWR guide (250038).
1 Cut the RJ45 connector off the end of Ethernet cable 106112.
2 Terminate the cable with a new RJ45 connector (107766). Terminate it without the blue and
white/blue wires. Follow the instructions in crimping guide Proc Conn RJ-45 Large OD Wire No
PWR (PN 250038).
Warning:Make sure you cut the blue and white/blue wires when terminating the cable with the RJ45
connector or you will damage the laptop or PTXC unit or both.
3 Connect the modified Ethernet cable (106112) between the PTXC and the laptop.
a Attach the coupling nut on the modified Ethernet cable to the back of the PTXC.
b Attach the “new” RJ45 connector on the modified Ethernet cable to an Ethernet port on the
laptop.
2 Configure your laptop IP address to be on the same subnet as the Ethernet 2 IP address:
d Right-click the laptop’s Ethernet connection icon, such as Local Area Connection, and select
Properties from the menu.
g Type an IP address that is on the same subnet as the PTX Ethernet 2 IP address but is different
than the Ethernet 2 IP address. For instance, if the PTX Ethernet 2 IP address is the default
192.168.0.112, you could type IP address 192.168.0.2
i Click OK.
a Open a command prompt on the laptop and enter ping <PTXC Ethernet 2 IP address>.
A positive result means that there is a successful connection between the PTXC and laptop via
Ethernet 2.
NoteIf ping is not successful, check the cable and other connections.
7 If the PoE is disabled, press enter to display a new command line. Then, enable PoE by entering
poe12vsetup enable enable.
8 Check the status again by entering the poe12vsetup status command in the next line. The
command must return a status of “enabled” for both clean12V and PoE, as shown below. If so, PoE
for Ethernet port 2 and power for CAN are now successfully enabled.
2 Disconnect the modified Ethernet cable from the PTXC unit and laptop.
2 Attach the mounting bracket (1) to back of the PTXC unit, using the bolts and washers provided.
3 Attach the PTXC cable harness MIL connector (2) to the back of the PTXC unit.
4 Secure the cable harness to the back of the PTXC unit, using a cushion clamp (100520) (3), 18 mm
M6-1 socket head cap screw, M6 split lock washer, and M6 flat washer.
5 Thread the GPS cable right-angle connector (4) onto the upper port on the back of the PTXC unit.
6 Attach the right-angle connector on the Ethernet 2 cable to the lower port on the back of the PTXC
unit (5).
7 Attach the ground cable (6) to the back of the PTXC unit.
2 Push the display up against the dash (where the ABS pocket was) (2), and secure the mounting
bracket, using the four bolts shown below in pink.

9.4 Connect the PTXC Cable Harness to the Komatsu Cable Harness Behind the Dash
Important: Before connecting the PTXC harness to the Komatsu harness, make sure that the
Komatsu harness contains CAN terminator resistors for the J1939 and 3RD PARTY connections.
1 Connect the PTXC harness POWER IN cable to the PTX PWR connection (1) behind the dash.
2 Connect the PTXC harness CAN J1939 (CAN 2) cable to the J1939 (CAN J1939 Network)
connection (2). This is for the Cummins engine interface.
3 Connect the PTXC harness CAN 3rd PARTY (CAN 1) cable to the 3RD PARTY connection (3). This
is for the Wabtec drive system, PLM4 payload, and/or KOMTRAX Plus RPC interfaces.
4 Connect the PTXC harness Ethernet 2 cable to the ETHERNET connection (4).
For factory installations, the installation is complete. Reinstall the panels, vents, and covers that you
removed in section 9.1 Prepare the Cab. For field installations, do not reinstall the cab components
yet, and complete the remaining sections in this guide.
Important: Refer to the Hardware Configuration Report to determine the steps and parts required to
connect to the third-party radio.
1 Leave the Ethernet 1 cable on the PTXC cable harness full length, and terminate the cable without
POE, using the provided RJ-45 connector, according to the Proc Conn RJ-45 Large OD Wire No-
PWR (PN 250038) document. If using a different agreed-upon connector, terminate the Ethernet 1
cable with the connector. Ensure that you connect to any third-party radio without POE, preferably
through a switch.
2 Route the cable to the agreed-upon connection location for the third-party radio. If the connection
location is unknown, coil the Ethernet 1 cable in the console for routing at a later time.
2 Route the GPS cable connected to the back of the PTXC unit through the pipe fitting (1) in the cab
floor that you threaded the right-angle connector onto. Feed the cable completely through the right-
angle connector.
The tasks are:
• Mount the GPS Antenna on the Truck Handrail
• Install Conduit and the GPS Cable
Important: Choose the most direct path for conduit routing from the PTXC unit to the GPS
antenna bracket that complies with the mine safety requirements.
1 Measure the conduit run from the right-angle conduit connector attached to the conduit plate
under the cab and the GPS bracket on the truck handrail. Cut the conduit 3 feet longer than the
measured length.
2 Mark the locations for each conduit clamp and have the welder weld the clamps in place.
a Slide the gland nut (1) and blue sealing ring (2) onto the end of the
conduit. 1
2
b Insert the ferrule (1) into the conduit. Then slide the blue sealing ring (2) up
against the ferrule.
1
2
d Assemble the conduit fitting by threading the gland nut onto the right-angle conduit connector.
4 Route the conduit from the vehicle cab to the GPS antenna bracket.
6 At the GPS antenna bracket, assemble a conduit fitting and fitting seal onto the end of the conduit:
11
9 Remove the GPS cable and connector body from the mounting hole at the bottom of the antenna
bracket so you can terminate the cable.
10 Terminate the GPS cable with straight TNC-M connector 102431, according to the PROC CONN
102431 TNC-M CR/CR LMR-195UF document (PN 250069). Apply heat shrink tubing 102727.
