SUPPLEMENT TO COLLINS TWR-850
TURBULENCE WEATHER RADAR SYSTEM
PILOT’S GUIDE

(Includes WXI-711 A Controls and Displays)

PiLors GUIDE COLLINS TWR-850
TURBULENCE WEATHER RADAR SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION

This supplement describes the operator controls and message display format
for the WXIJ?1A Weather Radar Indicator, CPN 622-9736-223/-224. It is not
intended to sewe as stand-alone pilot’s guide for the lWR-850 Turbulence
Weather Radar System. Please refer to the current TWR-850 Turbulence
Weather Radar System pilot’s guide for complete operation of the radar system.

The WXI-711A may be used as an alternate radar indicator for the TWR-850
Turbulence Weather Radar System. When used, the WXI-711A takes the
place of an EFIS display and WXP-850A (or WXP-55OB) Weather Radar
Control Panel.

Although the controls on the WXI-711A perform the same basic functions as
their WXPcounterparts, the use of push buttons for range and mode selection,
instead of rotary switches, does present some operational differences that
require explanation. It should be noted that the push button operation of the
WXI-71 I A was made to emulate WXP-85ONB operation where ever possible.
Likewise, the WXI-711A displays all of the same information, however the
display format (including colors, location of information on the screen, message
content 01 annunciaiors, presentation of range marks) does differ somewhat
from an equivalent EFIS display.

Target alert, sector scan, inflight stabilization trim, autotilt, and hold functions
are not currently implemented in the WXt-717A. Therefore, when the
WXI-711A(s) is used as a stand-alone disptay and controller, these functions
will not be available as stated in the TWR-850 pilot’s guide. Although the
WXt-711A does provide TURB and GCS modes of operation, it does not have
the abiliiy to display this information instantly. The WXI-711A begins
processing this infomation only after the mode js selected, thus it takes the
time of one complete scan cycle to update the display,

Except for the functions no! implemented in the WXI-711A, basic operating
procedures for the TWRd50, using the WXI-711 A, are as stated in the pilot’s
guide. While reading through the TWR-850 pilot’s guide, the user must keep
in mind that the illustrated displays will appear somewhat different on the
WXI-711 A and the modelrange selections may produce slightly different results,
depending on what moddrange selections are currently in effect.

Message Displays
Seventeen fields (slots 0-16)are defined on the WXI-711A display for
displaying messages (or annunciations). The illustration on the adjacent page
identifies each of the message display slots. Not all message slots are used
by the -223 and -224 status WXI-711As. Messages are shown tn those slots
that are used. Please note that the messages shown are not intended to
portray any valid radar display.

The table below lists he iype of information, and in most cases, the specific
messages that can appear in each message display slot.
