Activity 2: Reading
• Read through the passage and do the task that follows.
• Discuss your answers with a partner.
Robo-guard
The prison guard robots will be humanlike, 150 centimeters high, 140 centimeters wide,
and weigh 70 kilograms. They have four wheels, microphones and several cameras to
monitor movement around them. They are powered by rechargeable batteries. They are
supervised by a human guard and can be controlled by an iPad application through a
wireless control system. Scientists are now working on making them look friendlier. They
are black and white and have smiling faces. South Korea hopes to be a world leader in
robotics. It has already designed robots to teach English in schools and companies are
working on robots for the home.
