Introduction

• Amazon.com is a vast Internet-based enterprise and the middleman between other

retailers and Amazon’s millions of customers.

• Amazon is one of the world leaders in material handling and has invested a lot of
money into its warehouse systems to improve service and get goods moving faster.

• Amazon has a gigantic warehouse it spans 2.3 million square feet across four floors
and the center includes a highly automated space for comparison the empire state
building in New York city is 2.7 million square feet located in Phoenix Arizona

• This warehouse handles the bulkier items that won't fit in a regular tote it opened in
2011 has over a thousand employees who work 24/7
ERP System that Amazon use

Amazon has been using SAP as its ERP system for its
business processes. While the detailed SAP modules
implemented by Amazon can’t be predicted, some of
the modules that have been implemented by Amazon
include;
• SAP Basis / NetWeaver Administration
• SAP Business Suite
• SAP BusinessObjects
• SAP HANA
• SAP Mobility
Advantages of Amazon ERP System Integration

• Efficient management of product listing

• Better Visibility
• Enhanced Reporting and Planning
• Flexible Modularity
• Increased Efficiency
• Better Customer Service
• Integrated Inventory Management
• Compliance with Amazon fulfillment order (FBA)
• Scalability
Amazon warehouse managing system

Amazon offers FBA, also known as Fulfillment by

Amazon, is a service that helps Amazon sellers
outsource shipping to Amazon. With this fulfillment
option, Amazon stores, picks, packs, ships, and
delivers the products.
How Amazon's FBA System Works
Receiving process

• Upon receipt of the packages (properly sealed and labeled)

• Amazon associate scans a shipping label, to ensure each has a shipment ID that exists in
the system
• An Amazon associate opens the shipping box to remove the items
• Every item in the box has a scannable barcode, which an Amazon associate verifies
• Inspecting each item, an Amazon associate determines whether it needs to be packaged
extra to prevent damage during storage or shipment out
• In the receiving station, the associate tests the item on all six sides to ensure it is not
damaged
• Verification of title is performed at the receiving station by an associate
The units are sent to be stored in inventory every unit is scanned
into a location so that Amazon knows its exact location now when
a customer orders a product it can be quickly picked packed and
shipped to them without delay

Storage
• Each shelf is divided into cubbies and each cubby has a barcode and an alphanumeric
id interestingly these barcodes don't signify anything about the type of product in the
cubby.
• you've probably heard the rumor that amazon warehouse workers on average walk 12
miles a day within the warehouse to fetch and drop things around well that's no longer
true because identical products can be found all over the warehouse a worker has to
travel less to find the product
Picking process
A robot picks up an entire mobile shelf, on which a required product is located, and
transports it to the picker

With robots, one person can pick three to four hundred items an hour rather than the one
hundred or so that was possible on foot.

The ordered item is stored this item is then picked scanned and placed into a yellow bin
which is also scanned it travels on a conveyor system to one of many pre-packaging
stations where workers sort items into small slots on shelves with wheels those shelves
are then rolled into packing stations where another worker packages the orders into
cardboard boxes.

Once packed the boxes all head down to another belt to get labeled for the mailing
address sealed and stamped they're now ready to head down to the final shoots before
being loaded onto trucks for delivery.
Amazon’s innovations
Artificial intelligence

Before the user even log onto its website amazon has a
fairly good idea of what the user is going to buy. This is
all down to deep learning AI

In January 2020 for instance amazon's algorithm

correctly anticipated high incoming demands for face
masks
Kiva Robot
Pegasus Xanthus
Robotic Arm Slam
Shipping Process
It depends first on who’s fulfilling the package—Amazon
or the seller.

Shipping Process
• All the large and small sortable packages would next be sent to
a regional sortation center.

• Each item represent a different grouping of zip codes.

each outputs the same thing—pallets of packages going to
roughly the same place.

• For those that are to be delivered locally, they’ll be driven to

one of four delivery stations. There, they’ll be loaded into
smaller delivery vans.
